  • With reality check live I’m mercy Malick and this is the news trouble continues for Sinclair broadcast group following the recent revelation that employees at local St Clair news stations nationwide were forced to publicly accused competing media outlets of producing fake news harsh criticism followed the viral success of the video assembled by the sports news site Deadspin depicting dozens of news anchors from stations across the country reciting the same script with eerily similar in tone nation the sharing of biased in false news has become all too common journalists on the station question reportedly just as angry as the public regarding the embarrassing or deal with many especially upset about the so called terrorism alert dashed a mandatory near daily segment considered by many employees and viewers alike to be unnecessary and even deliberately frightening Sinclair chairman David D. Smith reportedly refers to the segment as must or ones flying solidly in the face of traditional journalistic practices of independent verification one local news anchor said quote I feel that we have been used as pawns in whatever political game they’re playing at the corporate level end quote employees have reportedly been forbidden from speaking with outside press about the topic Sinclair is currently the country’s largest broadcaster a hugely popular Facebook page on Facebook group purporting to raise money for the black lives matter movement in the United States have been field as a ski I’m aiming to line the pockets of a middle aged white Australian man at its height the Facebook page titled black lives matter posted over seven hundred thousand followers and a Facebook group of the same name listed nearly forty thousand members but the page and the supposed to group claimed to raise money for the black lives matter movement but some of the money curiously found its way into Australian bank accounts Australian Ian Mackey and National Union of workers official was listed as the administrative and technical contact for both page and group but when approached by CNN Mister Mackey denied any involvement in either the Facebook page has now been taken down by Facebook was previously warned about the situation months ago when co founder of the black lives matter movement Patrice callers contacted the social media giant and ask them to remove the page Mackie has been suspended from his job pending further investigation and finally politico reports the Donald Trump enjoys vastly greater popularity in areas where Americans do not read a newspaper done in areas where they do you voters in so called news desert areas with minimal newspaper subscriptions voted for trump in the twenty sixteen presidential election in higher than expected numbers counties in the top ten percent of subscription rates were twice as likely to vote for the democratic candidate as those in the lowest ten percent penny Abernathy a professor at university of North Carolina reflected quote without having the newspaper as a kind of true north to point you to issues you’re left to look for other sources and because of the dramatic rise in social media that ends up being in your Facebook friends and quote Donald Trump openly espouse local TV and radio stations owned by conservative leaning Sinclair broadcasting as well as social media sources that are often unverified or verifiably not factual trump recently claimed however quote I use social media not because I like to but because it is the only way to fight a very dishonest and unfair press now often referred to as fake news media many stories and reports are pure fiction end quote however the New York times reports to try told almost six times more distinctly different lies in the first ten months of his presidency then former president Obama did in all eight of his years in the White House the times reports to use precisely the same measure for both men and tallied quote only demonstrably and substantially false statements end quote for a reality check live I’m mercy now check live he had person that now occupies the White House became our imperial wizard or whatever it’s called presidents %HESITATION before we had this incredible an exciting moment I was invited to the White House not let’s be clear I don’t get invitations the White House I want is a plus one just be honest here and so there he once I got to be president of a book Obama for about two minutes and he said to me so you know you you do radio he said you need to do something different on radio right now it’s a bunch of preachers and static in Klan rallies and neo **** so come up with something different on public radio and I thought with Jesus marching orders from the president and I turn I said but I don’t own it like go do that I don’t own it what am I supposed to do but you know you walk out and then I was at Sundance and it was the women’s March the spontaneous largest gathering of women in all of human history in the planet not at Sundance is only eighteen hundred people but on earth and there we spontaneously got together and did I realize here’s the open door is that all the mammals the human mammals you’re screwed screwed it with Donald Trump and they mean it so we have to come up with a new way of bringing what we call ready for this young people all on to radio I know we all like to be over ninety but we’re going to do minus eighty in fact come over here we have a one of our comrades here part of the staff of the show and I’m gonna introduce everybody this is unusual because we called a soft launch so it is not the exact show we’re gonna be doing but I just want to I’m singing all over the world I’m seeing in our in our beautiful Orange County the weather is completely changed we have been in a drought for you know the last ten to fifteen years and it’s just Macy who we love and shameless and he’s got a new movie coming out called crystal we have Rosario Dawson who is huge in the burning movement and so she’s going to calm and and help support the show we have whose facial Nichols roundish who knows right dark my idol old my god she just turned eighty five and she’s going to tell us the personal stories about her and doctor Martin Luther king called on the phone and said yes and how she tried would start track Daniel Ellsberg and Daniel Ellsberg the original whistle blower the Pentagon papers and boy do we need that now and he’s going to give us a couple of great tips on that and that’s just the first show then after that I’m tired already I’m just it’s sort of truth full of truth and and what is our job here is to prevent treat today and by the way have fun I like fun it’s cuckoo for cocoa puffs but it just seems like a reasonable thing to do this radio here pacifica radio gave birth to something called Firesign theatre and a lot of you • New Hampshire Democrats please pick up those thunder sticks and give a good New Hampshire welcome to president of let America vote chasing candor thank you that is awesome I really appreciate it %HESITATION I actually want to start by thanking our wait staff tonight who’s working so hard we give them a round of applause I also want to definitely thank all of you for the invitation particularly chairman Buckley I’ve had the opportunity over the last year to work with the German quite a bit and I gotta tell you probably already know this but you know here in New Hampshire obviously he’s such a force is an advocate for the party but that’s also true across the country so I know how much you appreciate it but can you start by just showing him real quick it is great to be in the same room with three quarters of your can compressional delegation centers she hated Harrison and our congresswoman custard but I want to again be a speaker who ask for a round of applause for that also a delegation of my own here %HESITATION I have several friends of yours who are hoping to meet but I’m gonna do some again real quick you know mayor sly James the mayor of my town Kansas city Steven Weber the chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party is there Jill shoot a state senator from Saint Louis is here it’s a shard Jones the treasure of the city of Saint Louis so as well as several other friends I hope you get a chance to meet him all I am most excited that my wife Diana and my son true are here %HESITATION true is is born a half the half is crucially important you should know serve you get an opportunity to speak to true just a little bit surprised bring up the half a you integration yourself immediately so %HESITATION and like any foreign after all true has a lot of questions and a few months ago Diana intruder drive along in the car they were in Kansas city and true asked his mom he said mommy is brought mom is still president I know right like we were not prepared to have the talk with him yeah so she can and do it on the fly so she said nobody there’s a new president hours name is Donald Trump true espy said is he doing a good job and she said no he’s not doing a good job and then she was very sweet little boys we thought about that for a moment then he asked he said have you and Daddy told him my wife is able to very honestly to our son don’t worry buddy your Daddy tells him nearly every day and I will get to a little bit of that in a few minutes but first there’s two things that I want to do tonight other than completely change our lives by offering you a sample of Kansas city barbecue sauce which is on your table yeah you’re quite welcome those two things I want to do first is I want to make sure that I give you hope for the future of this party and of this country and second I want to tell you why it is that I decided to bring let America vote to New Hampshire and to do that I have to start by telling you about a problem that I have seen in our politics and it is this it is that we have far too many people in Washington for whom the toughest thing that they have ever been through in their lives momentarily is the campaign that got them there in the first place and that is why so many of them lacked the courage to stand up for their country in the way that we know that they need to right when I think about this I think back to my first days in Afghanistan when I was deployed I went over there thinking that I was pretty tough you go through a lot of training and I was pretty convinced that I was GI Joe in the flesh right and I’m there in my in my battle rattle my body armor I got my pistol on my hip and I’m I thought I was quite ready for the first convoy that I was going to go on to go outside the wire for the first time to go to the cameras can be station so in my mind what I’m picturing is what you’ve seen on TV which is big all armored Humvees like a mean look and do it up on top with a machine gun that is not what pulled up for my first counselor is a major know what a Mitsubishi Pajero is now well it’s basically an unarmored civilian mid size SUV is like a Ford escape so when I realize that’s what I was going on for my first convoy I suddenly did not feel at all tough like I felt a country mile or two away from tough it was a long way away and as we start to roll out the front gate I start to get pretty scared and then as we get under way like my physical fear was joined by a social fear because I started to worry that as I was getting nauseous that I might throw up on all my new coworkers on like when my first days in Afghanistan and I thought that might earn me a nickname and be bad and I was worried about but we got safely where we were going all my food stay in my stomach which is great if you fast forward a few months later I’m standing in the same spot but now in the convoy commander so that the jurors are behind me and I’m given a convoy brief I’m explaining the folks you know what to do for attacks who’s in charge if I get killed that kind of thing and I see this kid standing right out in front of me and he’s turning green and I know exactly what’s going through his mind because I’ve been there a few months earlier so I can watch them to see what he’s gonna do any winds up getting into the vehicle right behind me which is the only reason I remember this story because I remember thinking I hope this kid doesn’t throw up on me that was all I could think I’d say that started say they would you know he was scared in that moment I’d been scared before we made the decision to get in the picture as he looked at that moment and he said this is scary but I know that doing the job is more important than it is scary and we need more of that courage and our politics right now I firmly believe that we need more than courage in our politics and I’d so many veterans who have done so much more so much more for the country than me and whenever somebody uses the term political courage I can’t help but imagine what it would be like to try and convince some of them what it would mean I like the idea that is really politics that takes courage and anytime I imagine doing that I never am able to imagine actually convincing them up you know for me when I was in the backseat of that the juror that unarmored SUV in Afghanistan that was the first time in my life that I’d ever been on the receiving end of bad decisions by politicians that negatively affected my life I grew up comfortably there was no politician that was able to make a decision that would take food off my family’s table mine is not a hard luck story you know mine is a story of somebody who has had the privilege of living outside the wake of politics all the way in my mid twenties so I’m very aware as all of you are that there are so many Americans for whom their earliest memories are that a motion of feeling let down by the people in charge were supposed to look out for and they are the reason that I am in public service not to follow public opinion polls but to change them voters reward courage I’ve worn this I know this for a fact I won in a red state with my F. rating from the NRA with my endorsement from Planned Parenthood and I was proud of both given the fact that they’ve been attacking me for me and for single payer since two thousand nine before it was cool by the way as a Democrat I believe that our approach is the best thing for every American family for every voter I don’t think that we’re the best for like a few people are for certain people I think though we want to do is gonna be the best thing no matter who you are whether you’re black or white whether you’re a man or woman gay or straight whether you’re from the city or the country rich or poor I believed all we as Democrats want to do is going to do the most good for you and your family and I’m betting you agree with me then we should never make the mistake of making our we should always make our argument into CS degree and loudly we’ve tried it the no courage way for seven years our party hid from obamacare failed to defend refused to defend a law that involved a democratic president and a democratic Congress making healthcare available to millions of people saving lives where the other side do they spent millions of dollars trashing it we spend just about nothing different in it and then we were shocked and surprised when it became unpopular and then in the beginning of twenty seventeen when our backs are against the wall we all linked arms Newman and we made our case for we told people why we were for it turned out when they knew it was all about they liked it and then one Republicans taking away their health care we should learn from this we should learn that when we go out we tell people exactly what we believe and we tell them that we believe that healthcare should be a right in this country they will respond and that is why all across the state and all across this country we are winning special elections right now on healthcare because we’re saying we really believe we’ve got to have the courage to confront the fact that the civil rights battles of the past are back there are folks who want to take away our rights like the right to vote and that we have to stand up to it as a party we haven’t always done in the past and we’ve got to do a better job in the future and that is what that is why I started let America vote over a year ago with the mission of creating political consequences for politicians who perpetrate voter suppression because I believe that it is time that politicians who make it harder to vote find it a whole lot harder to get reelected the New Hampshire is ground zero for this fight in twenty eighteen folks we have to show the country that voter suppression ing and apply here or anywhere else in America I volunteered to serve in the army because I wanted to protect the rights and the freedoms that our nation has to offer and all be damned if I’m gonna come home and watch christen Nunu and Donald Trump train take those rights away I chose this fight because the Republicans have decided to make this the fight to end all fights they’ve decided that if they can change the electorate for good and they don’t have to convince anybody that their ideas are good that’s what they decide they decided that the ideas that they have that they know hurt people there’s gonna make sure that those folks can never vote them out office that they’re going to eliminate them from democracy time and time again in this country the courts have weighed in and said that laws like this all around the country the same marginalize minority voters that they disproportionately impact minority voters just so we’re all on the same page let’s be real clear about what that means that as a church up court way of saying that these laws are racist that’s what they’re saying it is it may make clothes are comfortable but it’s what is the truth and we ought to say so and I wish that this was all just a history lesson it should just be a history lesson but it’s not it’s happening right now in America right now white supremacists and the KKK are literally on the March displaying for everybody the horrific views that they once thought that they had to hide why because they were emboldened by a president who says that they are very fine people well call me crazy but I believe that we deserve to have a commander in chief who at least has the courage to stand up to the KKK and not see if we don’t drop if we allow Donald Trump to deny students and minorities and working folks in this country their voice at the ballot box in this country is going to go back in time that is what the Republicans want they want to take us back I don’t know about you but I’m not gonna let that happen I ain’t going back we’re not going back so starting right now let’s send a message to the boat suppressing politicians across New Hampshire and the rest of the country if you want to attack our democracy you gotta go through us and if you want to take away come after the right to vote well then we’re gonna come for your job so I’m looking forward to being back often to working side by side with the folks in this room to make sure that we elect Democrats up and down the ballot in this state we started all the way back in may when we work to help elect a representative demerits and the new and were involved in in center Kavanaugh’s election victory they’re here I know and then %HESITATION we were honored to be able to work with to so many of you to make sure the joys Craig became the mayor of Manchester is pretty awesome yeah everybody who has won an election who’s in this room in twenty seventeen or twenty eighteen please stand up so we can give you around the park to work with all of you to make sure that we turn to Hampshire bright blue and I deeply appreciate the opportunity to be a part of your fight so thank you very much now the Democrats have a lot of work to do across the country which is why I’ve spoken at events like this in thirty eight states from you know Florida to %HESITATION to Utah from Iowa to Nevada to from I mean I’ve been everywhere honestly everybody’s in between and what I’ve noticed is that even in this polarized time there is more that brings our country together there then there is the push is a part of the same is true for our party we know America is changing but the Republican’s sales pitch is this it is change is bad you should be afraid of change change is scary and we the Republican Party can magically reverse change we can protect you from it so that you don’t have to be afraid anymore but that is dead wrong about who we are as Americans president Obama taught us that Americans are not meant to fear the future Americans are meant to shape the future talking about winning elections I’m talkin about uniting the country so on the other side says that America is a dangerous neighborhoods you got a lock your doors and got a sting inside what we’re saying to folks is known come outside join the neighborhood watch join this party that believes that we should care about people that we don’t know that’s our rather radical ideas in it we are as Democrats after all we’re here because we give a damn about people that’s why we’re here it’s who we are one brother the other side says that that’s bleeding heart liberal guilt I say there is a sense of duty to one another and to our country that’s what it is there are way too many Republicans who think that once you climb up the ladder and find success to what you’re supposed to do is pull that letter up behind you we’re here tonight because we believe that once you have some success you look around you find more letters to lower him you reached out to bring the entire country up that’s what it is to be a Democrat Margaret was ninety four years old and we all come on pot about sixty years ago pop moved our family into a neighborhood in Kansas city that previously didn’t allow Jews to live there so our family was one of the first in support moves in this neighborhood always neighbors ask him to become the neighborhood association president spaces all right hardest part of the job he said really the only part of the job was coaching the neighborhood baseball team said my dad and my uncle were on the team and so the only hard part was they didn’t really have a kid the complete short stop so he was always asking around about that other than that really easy job later that summer families from the neighborhood come to pop in the the town that one of the families has moved out of the neighborhood but they still on their home and they turned it into an unlicensed hotel and they don’t like that right because they got kids play in the yards people come and go and they don’t know they don’t pop was not a lawyer they said you got to go to court and you got to get this unlicensed hotel shut down so pop did the day of the hearing the lawyer for the folks on the sun license so tell comes to pop and threatens him and says looking before to this if you want to do you’re probably gonna win but you should know my client has identified a black family and they’re going to sell their home to that family in a black family’s gonna move in your neighborhood pop knew what is most important responsibility was his neighborhood association president he ought to start writing the nineties and that’s fine you have to know that family as a kid the complete short stuff even you don’t pull the latter up behind you don’t close off the wall to your neighborhood you make sure the folks can come in behind it that’s your responsibility and growing up that’s what I learned from my folks my dad was a cop who later in a security company and him my mom met while they’re working together is juvenile probation officers so as you can imagine we got away with nothing at all yeah but what drove them was not a search for convenience or for money what drove them was a sense of duty to their community a love for their community so when I saw the planes hit the twin towers on nine eleven I knew that I was going to join the army and that sense of duty that I learned from my parents is why I volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan and nearly every meal that I eat over there began with me offering a simple prayer that included me just giving thanks to god for the opportunity to serve my country because I knew what an awesome responsibility I’d been entrusted with and I’ve tried to continue in that approach throughout my time in public service every time that I’ve run for office is been because there was an office between me and getting some down whether it was trying to undo Medicaid cuts by running for state representative for or fighting for voting rights just like I do now when I ran for secretary of state and Missouri or one in a middle class tax cut to look out for my fellow veterans or to defend a bomber care so I ran for the United States Senate does work my reasons but everybody in here has their own reasons whether you are elected office when you work with campaigns or however you are involved but as Democrats we do have a guiding principle that unites all of us and it’s actually really simple we believe that every American family should have a shot at the American dream that is what we believe as Democrats we think that no matter where you are we know that no matter where you are in the country whether it’s your neighbors New Hampshire my neighbors misery we all really want the same thing we want our kids lives to be an upgrade over our own and we really like it if our kids can live those lives near us I want every American home town to be a place where you can find success without having to move if you don’t want to and that’s what we’re about every every issue that we’re about is essentially about that wages and healthcare those are issues because we believe that when you have more money in your pocket you’re going to spend it in your community to buy stuff or to pay for services and companies in your community are gonna hire people to provide services or to make stuff and there’s more opportunity and people don’t need to leave college affordability for us is about making sure that if kids do leave for opportunity that they’re not so steeped in debt that they can’t afford to come home and criminal justice reform is about making sure that our returning citizens have an opportunity to be a part of contributing to the safety of our community so that everybody feels it’s a place where they can stay that’s what we’re about at the end of the day all of those issues and I’m a progressive from a red state so I know that these things self don’t tell me that they don’t I one in twenty twelve when on the same day that president Banda lost my state by almost ten in twenty sixteen outperform the top of the ticket by sixteen points I got two hundred twenty thousand votes from folks who also voted for Donald Trump even though I’m pretty sure the only thing he and I have in common is a fear of sharks so I know that when we have the courage to stand up for what we know who is going to be the right thing for America the voters reward a sport like I said we care that’s who we are as Democrats how did we ever allow anybody to convince us that that was somehow weakness caring is not kryptonite caring is a super power and we should lean into it before I go I just wanna prove my point with one last story when I was in army intelligence school one of my instructors pulled me aside and gave me some advice one Jewish soldier to another he said Jason when you get over there don’t let your translators find out that you’re Jewish because if they do they won’t want to work with you I didn’t know any better so I took this advice so I get to Afghanistan imperative for the spell on him so long now Salaam by pure coincidence had family in Kansas city where I’m from so he considered Kansas city to be his hometown and so I mean I became really close we’re in some dangerous places surrounded by you know some shady characters at times and we bonded and I’ve never that time had a Muslim friend that I was as close to as I was to song and so I would ask him all sorts of questions about Islam and he would answer me he never asked me about my religion and they tell me not to tell him so I never did and in a few days before I was getting ready to go home I felt like you know we’re close I want to tell someone that I’m Jewish so we’re sitting at a safe house or eat leftovers and I’d make kind of this big production of it and I tell salon that I’m Jewish and someone to me kind of funny Mrs Chasen did you think I didn’t know that and I’m like yeah man I never told you this is back home in Kansas city my sister catch your grandmother’s hair so we had a good laugh about it and if someone looked at me a little more serious little bit hurt and yes Mister did you think I would care and I was embarrassed but I told him the story about intelligence school and then Salaam said something that I will never forget he said Jason over here we are just a couple of Americans who the bad guys would very much like to kill I think about that all the time I say let the politicians who have never done anything harder than a campaign let them be the ones who want to be a divisive force what we bring Americans together around what it truly means to be American we can be a unifying force we have an opportunity in twenty eighteen to take back the house to take back the Senate and then a twenty twenty we are going to have a chance to put a sense of courage back in the White House it’s not going to be easy we all have a role to play we’re going to have to grab in or we’re going to have to do our part but as for me I served my country in Afghanistan I am the first morning show in the country ever elected to statewide office and now I am fighting in an American attack on our democracy and I am proud to do it here in New Hampshire and across the country we will not let them roll back the progress the president Obama and so many people before him made we won’t let it happen because were patriots because we understand that patriotism is not about making everybody stand and salute the flag patriotism is about making this a country where everybody wants to and we can be the and in January of twenty twenty one when we get a new president we will thank you thank you thank you it’s only seven o’clock folks so for those of you want to continue parting Jason is hosting us in a room back out down the hallway for after party you’re all welcome to come and I would love to have all of the high school dams in the college and come up on stage and have a picture taken with Jason for all that they do come on up here in high school or in college then you’re in high school or college begin club come all up one up

  • reality check live with Cary Harrison. and my job things were pretty bad down in Beaverton after the big beaver river overflowed and sent beaver rights running for their lives all those poor folks lost just about everything and they almost lost homes but that’s when the people I work for it Philip Morris stepped in we lived in all the supplies that desperately needed to get their lives in order you should have been the see their faces every beaver right was given a carton of Marlboros and a block of expired deleted the people at the Fillmore as companies saw this tragedy as an opportunity an opportunity to help people and get around that pesky ban on broadcast cigarette advertising yeah another carton of Marlboro sure thing kid any matches working to make people think we’re making a difference the people of filled this check blood Richard Nixon was going west reproducing the same deceptions and making the same question this collection including Burlington installation which again we’re hearing threats of nuclear weapons used by the United States being on the table she had taken over your race are now in control crank up your radios volume or we can turn it down solo that you can barely hear back and mess around with the bass we can crank up the trouble we can blow out your left speaker harm by we can even make your radio sound like a broken CD we are in total charge we are in complete control Jerry Harrison here with you this is reality check lobby could follow us anytime at reality check live dot org or on social media reality check LV add reality check LV gonna let you enjoy a pre recorded interview with well let’s just say a super hero I want to introduce to you the whistle blower of the century he’s the template for Edward Snowden for Chelsea manning for all the other recent people of great notoriety of heroism and certainly people that become an allergy to the lot of people in power that’s for sure we’re talking about Daniel Ellsberg he’s the subject of the recent Spielberg film the post starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep depending on people’s different ages whether you’re listening to this on a stream or a podcaster hearing it live on FM or am radio Daniel Ellsberg was a former military analyst from the rand corporation he’s the guy that caused a big national uproar back in nineteen seventy one when he released the Pentagon papers which were seven thousand pages of highly classified defense department documents which were telling the truth about illegal activities with the Vietnam War he released those to the New York Times The Washington Post and lots of others well he’s got a new book out called the doomsday machine confessions of a nuclear war planner doomsday machine is based on Daniel Ellsberg experience as not only a former defense analyst but get this lot of us didn’t know what he is now one of the few living members of the group who devised America’s nuclear strike doctrines quick side note Daniel Ellsberg release those Pentagon papers actually eroded public support for the Vietnam War and get this it makes it possible for you and me to be here today because he brought about a landmark legal precedent in favor of press freedom something that allows reality check live to be on and growing everyday Daniel Ellsberg we’re so glad you’re joining us thank you and thank you for that warm introduction accretion was at a great nothing call me am I could go on for twenty or thirty more minutes easily well unite you know it’s one thing to have the president of the United States go after you but of course he can do things with the psychiatrists %HESITATION with people mucking around your finally I mean you really are suffered a lot of distress at the hands of that fist being on trial basically over two years was a strain but the real distress was suffered by Richard Nixon %HESITATION when his crimes he committed against me in order to stop me from telling secrets about him came home and it was a major factor in his impeachment proceedings that led to his resignation so that was true of a number of other people that he assigned to quote neutralize me %HESITATION Ehrlichman a Colgate will close our two countries Gordon Liddy they really all went down so they you know for once they suffered the fruits of their own crime now you or someone with a strong conscience I mean you went and copied seven thousand department offense documents that revealed the %HESITATION with a from violence three years of deception by four different presidents of the American public because the why we were in Vietnam why we’re going and what we were actually doing what the costs would be what the risks were every aspect of that was lied about as is true today of course about the war in Iraq by our president and vice president and secretary of defense will me ask on an inspirational question there are those who will have access listening to the show right now to sensitive documentation but would not know I don’t know if I should do or don’t do or what to think about it or what but there must have been no one actor one thing or or several %HESITATION moments combined that to inspire you to do the right thing to jump off the high dive into many millions of people’s lives and actually %HESITATION the result being that many lives were saved well one thing which is shared I think but hundreds if not thousands of people in the government today was that I knew unlike in at that time most people in the government in nineteen sixty nine president general Richard Nixon was going was reproducing the same deceptions and making the same secret service collection including but only nuclear escalation which again we’re hearing government threats of nuclear weapons used by the United States being on the table victim was making those threats but in those days when people worried about the Cold War a Cold War and the world growing up if one nuclear weapon was used he had to make those efforts secretly now people are less worried about it and they really don’t but tonight when the president makes his first openly but in the case in sixty nine and I knew the world was going to go on and was going to get larger as many people now in government now and I thought that would be a disaster as many of those people do right now one thing that was different was for me was that I did meet young Americans and who were going to jail in large numbers to express their refusal to cooperate with the what they saw as a wrongful war which I also saw it hadn’t occurred to me before I met a couple of those firsthand were on their way to prison that does that was a risk group cost I could pay myself just as I was by body in Vietnam as so many are doing today if the troops can take those risks if I could have shared them when I was a civilian in Vietnam why couldn’t I give up my career give up my freedom to help in the war with some chance when I saw it in that frame it seemed to me obviously the right thing to do Terry Harris with you were talking to doctor Daniel Ellsberg who about forty years ago copied over seven thousand pages on a Xerox machine of highly classified defense department documents also known as the Pentagon papers and brave possible imprisonment to reveal the truth about the crop Vietnam War we’re talking about presidential impeachment presidential skulduggery everything that completely resonates with today’s Surrey elodie this brings us around Daniel Ellsberg to the obvious question the elephant in the middle of the the mastodon in the middle of the room here given the unfathomable grotesquery is that we see happening in our government right now whether it’s Congress whether it’s the president hookers porn stars bribes emoluments you name it if we really found out the truth about all this stuff whether it’s Russia or if you’re a person of faith and it’s just grand infidelity if we really found out about all of this stuff could we depend once it’s public for the government to actually do something about it without be sufficient information washes her question that people ask me all the time and I don’t and I as good of other people I don’t really know why the Democrats as a minority are acting so passive and so afraid of their opponents of public Republicans didn’t act that way when they were a minority because we know the Democrats existed as a as a separate party why is the media being so compliant with government handouts people say nine eleven are scared them of the that the charge that they would be called unpatriotic class treasonous week on memory of Willie brown former mayor of %HESITATION San Francisco is the question of just the other day and he said it was before nine eleven nineteen ninety four Republicans we scared the Democrats that they have to become like Republicans to %HESITATION %HESITATION get in office at all now it hasn’t been very successful for the unity of these elections but they still seem to be doing it except for a few exceptions that I want to give them credit you know you were talking about heroes and %HESITATION thank you for including me in that class the fact is there a lot of heroes in this country that have inspired me and inspire other people civilians and military many in Congress or in particular in the executive branch to find somebody who’s willing to tell the truth at the cost of their career a rare and I think one thing we could do is to hold that standard up to our politicians and officials and say you’re not doing the job of protecting the constitution would you keep your mouth shut and your careers going rather than expose CryEngine unconstitutional behavior %HESITATION we’re we’re going to show you what the polls say may not see the light but they’ll feel the heat that’s that’s were getting ready to officials we have to offer them not that we can unelectable because you’re not elected to start with and they probably won’t be prosecuted if they keep their mouths shut we’ll be prosecuted by this administration because they tell the truth and that’s a price they should be willing to pay certainly consider paying when so many lies search they carry Harris with you were talking to doctor Daniel Ellsberg the original whistle blower of the century and subject of the recent Spielberg film the post starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep got a new book out called doomsday machine and he’s one of a still living group who devised America’s nuclear strike doctrines and now we’re in a position where we might actually have to think they could be deployed Daniel Ellsberg if we decided to start a RCL that’s a reality check live whistleblower school and we’d love you to mentor the young whistle blowers of this generation I’d I’d love to it encouraging advise anybody that I’m not going to be telling them through what I did as a matter of fact I’ll be telling them don’t do what I did don’t wait till the war has started against Iran don’t wait till we do use nuclear weapons before you come out don’t wait for your memoirs I didn’t do that but I think a lot longer than I wish I could you can stop the war if you the truth about what’s going on in time that’s where I couldn’t do and that’s what I’m urging people to do thank you Daniel Ellsberg for letting us pre record this interview with us thank you for your fortitude your stamina and all American good civic engagement well thank you and I I hope it’ll encourage other whistle blowers to hear your encouragement because they really need to get a different set of priorities from what they’re working with thank sit here with you and we’ve been speaking to the whistle blower of the century the Pentagon papers doctor Daniel Ellsberg author of the recent book the doomsday machine right at the White House to set up and think about impeachment Harrison here with you this is reality check live one of the wonderful things that we get to do for you is give you face time as it were with many of our were celebrated politicians one of whom was become a stand up over first hero to so many is congresswoman Maxine waters about around the year many times before and she has proven to be a staunch resistir of just plain bad politics we gave her the good news about our nothing less than an FCC cool here with reality check line getting on AM’s and FM’s and really trying to offer an alternative in a sea of crackling static preachers neo **** and Klansmen asked about the possibility of impeachment with Donald Trump and also brought up to speed on this first show why the rest of us yeah we have a shot to take over FM’s in all five major markets New York LA Houston Washington we’re putting together a special show were rebooting Air America something that I did when I started the gay channel on SiriusXM so we’d love to be able to have your help on that and get the word out in a real way in front of millions of people and have your voice on any and everything that I can do I’m certainly willing to do it US so need it it is so important for people to get information and information in the way that KPFK and public radio can do and so whatever I can do to be of assistance I will be happy to I love it I’m I’m her regulating an anticipatory delight let’s talk for a little bit about Donald Trump here about the notion of impeaching him for high crimes and misdemeanors that’s a responsibility of the Congress of the United States of America I think that our investigations have been slow we should have had an impartial commission of doing this these investigations I don’t know where it’s all going the house is absolutely unreliable with Nunez as the head of the house intelligence committee that’s no good and I’m even worried about Bure over on the Senate side who tried to redefine what the president said when he met with calmly and so I’ve got to give some hope to a new Pronto who has been identified and selected to go forward with this investigation at some real life I hope that he’s going to be better than what we’ve seen on both the house side and the Senate side but if not the people can make the Congress of the United States do what they need to do and accept their responsibility this man has already identified himself I believe that you know the fact that he gave classified information to the Russians right at the White House is enough to make you sit up and think about impeachment I also believe that we have enough information about his allies and their connection to and the only box of Russia %HESITATION to move with the impeachment I really do believe that the Congress of the United States needs to accept this responsibility and you’re absolutely right we define it high crimes and misdemeanors determined by us okay and just now we have your back there are three hundred twenty seven million Americans minus a handful who may not agree but most of us are wide awake we get it and that you were here that the helicopters are flying overhead that everyone sees it is so important for today and the future absolutely and I’m just so pleased to be a part of this today this is another big step big step in and bring in Washington and that not the the president of the United States and his cabinet to their knees that’s what we need to do Congress one Maxine waters is United States representative congresswoman for California’s forty third congressional district a member of the Democratic Party the most senior of the twelve black women currently serving in Congress and is a member and former chair of the congressional black caucus check work on the year many times before and she has proven to be a staunch resistir of just plain bad politics we you don’t have to you just have to love live right roll with it we’re we’re rolling with it %HESITATION so here’s what happened I love transparency best thing we can do is just be transparent so you know that was obviously recorded interview and in the production which is where you link all these things together to put it together with all of that yet edited videos on our phones and maybe even some audio before sometimes or something called a ripple effect in ripple edits are fierce ferocious the of appetites the of snarling teeth and hair on their palms not from doing anything naughty not from you know inter digit in inter digitally knowing to say it better than you do well I’m not gonna say it because I’m a good person but the short and long of it is the Maxine came on twice and we celebrate that she deserves to be on twice now that means that lieutenant ahora Nichelle Nichols who is supposed to be on right now we can’t play that because that of course we did %HESITATION just a little while ago and that was in the can but it’s going to have to cut happen next week are you gonna have to tune in and you’re gonna have to tune in absolutely and you’re gonna get to hear Roseanne so that’s what I have to say about that and I actually gives a couple of three years of deception by four different presidents of the American public because the why we were in Vietnam why we’re going and what we were actually doing what the costs would be what the risks were every aspect of that was lied about as is true today of course about the war in Iraq by our president and vice president and secretary of defense will me ask on an inspirational question there are those who will have access listening to the show right now to sensitive documentation but would not know and I don’t know if I should do or don’t do or what to think about it or what but there must have been no one actor one thing or or several %HESITATION moments combined that to inspire you to do the right thing to jump off the high dive into many millions of people’s lives and actually %HESITATION the result being that many lives were saved well one thing which is shared I think but hundreds if not thousands of people in the government today was that I knew unlike in at that time most people in the government in nineteen sixty nine president general Richard Nixon was going was reproducing the same deceptions and making the same secret service collection including but only nuclear escalation which again we’re hearing government threats of nuclear weapons used by the United States being on the table victim was making those threats but in those days when people worried about the Cold War of the Cold War and the world growing up if one nuclear weapon was used he had to make those efforts secretly now people are less worried about it and they really don’t but tonight when the president makes of such openly but in the case in sixty nine and I knew the world was going to go on and was going to get larger as many people now in government now and I thought that would be a disaster as many of those people do right now one thing that was different was for me was that I did meet young Americans and who were going to jail in large numbers to express their refusal to cooperate with the what they saw as a wrongful war which I also saw it hadn’t occurred to me before I met a couple of those firsthand were on their way to prison that %HESITATION that was a risk group because I could pay myself just as I was by body in Vietnam as so many are doing today if the troops can take those risks if I could have said that when I was a civilian in Vietnam why couldn’t I give up my career give up my freedom to help in the war with some chance when I saw it in that frame it seemed to me obviously the right thing to do Terry Harris with you were talking to doctor Daniel Ellsberg who about forty years ago copied over seven thousand pages on a Xerox machine of highly classified defense department documents also known as the Pentagon papers and brave possible imprisonment to reveal the truth about the crop Vietnam War were talking about presidential impeachment presidential skulduggery everything that completely resonates with today’s Surrey out this brings us around Daniel Ellsberg to the obvious question the elephant in the middle of the the mastodon in the middle of the room here given the unfathomable grotesquery is that we see happening in our government right now whether it’s Congress whether it’s the president hookers porn stars bribes emoluments you name it if we really found out the truth about all this stuff whether it’s Russia or if you’re a person of faith and it’s just grand infidelity if we really found out about all of this stuff could we depend once it’s public for the government to actually do something about it without be sufficient information washes her question that people ask me all the time and I don’t and I as good of other people I don’t really know why the Democrats as a minority are acting so passive and so afraid of their opponents of public Republicans didn’t act that way when they were a minority you’d hardly know the Democrats existed as a as a separate party why is the media being so compliant with government handouts people say nine eleven are scared them of the that the charge that they would be called unpatriotic cloud treasonous week on memory of Willie brown former mayor of %HESITATION San Francisco is the question of just the other day and he said it was before nine eleven nineteen ninety four Republican sweep which scared the Democrats that they have to become like Republicans to %HESITATION %HESITATION get in office at all now it hasn’t been very successful for them in any of these elections but they still seem to be doing it except for a few exceptions that I want to give them credit you know you were talking about heroes and %HESITATION thank you for including me in that class the fact is there a lot of heroes in this country that have inspired me and inspire other people civilians and military many in Congress or in particular in the executive branch to find somebody who’s willing to tell the truth at the cost of their career a rare and I think one thing we could do is to hold that standard up to our politicians and officials and say you’re not doing the job of protecting the constitution would you keep your mouth shut and your careers going rather than expose CryEngine unconstitutional behavior %HESITATION we’re we’re going to show you what the polls say may not see the light but they’ll feel the heat that’s that’s were getting ready to officials we have to offer them not that we can unelectable because you’re not elected to start with and they probably won’t be prosecuted if they keep their mouths shut we’ll be prosecuted by this administration because they tell the truth and that’s a price they should be willing to pay or certainly consider paying when so many lies search they carry Harris with you were talking to doctor Daniel Ellsberg the original whistle blower of the century and subject of the recent Spielberg film the post starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep got a new book out called doomsday machine and he’s one of a still living group who devised America’s nuclear strike doctrines and now we’re in a position where we might actually have to think they could be deployed Daniel Ellsberg if we decided to start a RCL that’s a reality check live whistleblower school and we’d love you to mentor the young whistle blowers of this generation I’d I’d love to it encouraging advice anybody that I’m not going to be telling them through what I did as a matter of fact I’ll be telling them don’t do what I did don’t wait till the war is started against Iran don’t wait till we do use nuclear weapons before you come out don’t wait for your memoirs I didn’t do that but I think a lot longer than I wish I could you can stop the war if you the truth about what’s going on in time that’s what I couldn’t do and that’s what I’m urging people to do thank you Daniel Ellsberg for letting us pre record this interview with us thank you for your fortitude your stamina and all American good civic engagement well thank you and I I hope it’ll encourage other whistle blowers to hear your encouragement because they really need to get a different set of priorities from what they’re working with thank sit here with you and we’ve been speaking to the whistle blower of the century the Pentagon papers doctor Daniel Ellsberg author of the recent book the doomsday machine confessions of a nuclear war planners check work they were all our news director mercy Malick and mercy and I’ve been together on public radio in the past it’s been awhile since we’ve had a reunion and it has been awhile hasn’t it it’s very exciting it hasn’t happened in several years it has been a couple years today may not be the actual for twenty day this is the big first national international day of marijuana of pot and it is being celebrated it worldwide and especially in California and Colorado where it is completely legal but boy is causing some controversies it definitely is so I just want to say for frame of reference Kerry I consider myself one of the best chosen advocates for marijuana legality because I personally cannot stand pot work it does not work with my physiology at all none of the happy mellow laughing thing just angry suspicious and stealing people’s food so really there’s no upside to that because of this when I say it is incredibly important in fact of paramount importance that any individual be allowed to put into their own body exactly what they choose I’m not speaking from a point of personal benefit it benefits me personally not one single bit but you know what I don’t like tomatoes either and I don’t think there should be illegal I don’t like okra and I do think it should be illegal more for me more for you well it’s very interesting two hundred million Americans are legally allowed to consume cannabis in whatever form if it’s this a TiVo or the indigo or whatever I mean it’s basically called Wanka we’d now because you have quite a wide spectrum of chocolate delights in flood threat level and the top administration is actually said they are going to withhold harsher penalties because they realize after Jeff sessions and others come repeatedly talk about states rights states rights states rights and it is legal in the state you can’t suddenly do what federal government is going to rule everything because I believe that’s what we’ve heard was has been the problem all along so thorough actually gonna see what the states will do as long as it’s in alignment with federal guidelines it’s very difficult to say states rights repeatedly bots just not her marijuana because that really is the largest problem facing America today yet marijuana well and we Mildred sitting there eighty eight years old in her double wide puffing on a joint with a can of Budweiser in one hand and a handful of rum built of run till Bon bons and the other god knows how many ISIS video she’s likely to watch especially if she’s high on pot Minaj definitely will increase the likelihood would isolate seizures we’re gonna play in just a couple of minutes an interview we did with Tommy Chong you also see the video of Cheech and Chong fame and he says we don’t know it’s anecdotal and I didn’t check but he cured his testicular cancer by rubbing cannabis oil on his John is not he bets for a number of months and he %HESITATION he cites that he is completely cured of this and his physicians actually support that one hundred percent that he is cancer free so we’re gonna hear from his own words %HESITATION and all of this just in alignment with the state that has gotten together democratically the people voted for this it wasn’t granted by the king or the governor Democrat or Republican the people got together and decided it was in their own best interest and I think we all can support democracy in whatever way it turns out it’s really interesting to carry because you hear so often people saying oh my vote doesn’t matter I’m just one person not voting is stupid when people feel motivated and really get behind an issue that’s what changes things so it’s a good example yes and it prevents truth decay because it is not a communist country yet cell let’s keep voting and by the way the day this was recorded also was the international walk out day with the students of walked out of their schools everywhere in order to protest gun violence and %HESITATION some what appears to be even growing and are a fundraising let’s say due to continue the ability to take machine guns in the schools whether it’s the teachers carrying them or the children it doesn’t really matter anymore and what’s it ng is guess what’s happening when these kids are walking out with getting registered to vote fantastic that’s what’s actually happening to the walk out is not some we gonna cut class they’re walking out to be registered to vote we’re also gonna play clip right now and this comes from trump’s new TV channel which is %HESITATION called out one America news news network which I have on direct TV and they’re siting at the reason the kids are walking out is because of women your people mercy MNR behind destroying children I I like the way you nurturers you and they create the children and then destroyed and then you destroy them so we’re going to hear from the horse’s mouth and this is not to say anybody is anti trump here it’s just kind of like a shocking moment to hear that officially said that women the ones that that crave often a to have the children and nurture them and suck on them on their breasts in and raise them and love them are also the ones destroying them and sending them into the jaws of death twenty for director well known for Cheech and Chong comedy movies with as well as playing the character Leo on fox’s that seventies show turns out Tommy Chong has successfully treated his prostate cancer using hemp oil that being the base oil from the common marijuana or hemp plant my dad when we whenever the kids were sick he’d he’d go Chinese on as many good herbalist and herbalists again this nasty tasting tea and maybe he would he be data to us kids and now I was very healthy you know who don’t buy all light because of that Chinese medicine and also it’s interesting %HESITATION that many of these herbs are I mean we know absolutely their prophylactic in that they prevent people from %HESITATION being able to get disease %HESITATION I mean there’s thousands of years of medicine there yeah and they’ve been deep and say they they had a great system the Chinese had a great system what the emperors did they paid the doctors to keep them healthy but if they got on healthy and they died they would kill the doctors it seems reasonable yeah so so %HESITATION so the doctors had a incentive to keep these guys healthy versus a disincentive yeah and so what they did they discovered acupuncture and the reason they discovered action point shoes they would study the them back in the day they they fought wars with bows and arrows and you know the source in that and they found out that some people that would get wounded in one area with an arrow yeah it would help another area they would you know the points this so they started studying the human body with with the you know with the points with the arrow thing then the refine it down to little needles and then they found this the circuit electrical circuit your body and then when they discover tai chi was the same way the way the discover tai chi was the they find out that the key to health was would be circulation late to the watch nature and they would see that a folk pond a water would wasn’t flowing it would became stagnant and and pull the disease and so the the realize that the human body is ninety percent water and so the bar in a way to keep the the circulation clincher and the way they did that they studied animals in the study the way cats moved to the way the birds would ruffle the feathers in and saw the Thai chi movements impact their names like the tiger claw in the in the in the clean and all that stuff sold the Chinese yeah I I’m very into China well you know it’s very interesting %HESITATION you talk about acupuncture they’re now using acupuncture to a place botox feature because it interrupts the synaptic connections the electrical connections between the muscles much instead of putting it you know botulism toxoid in there which then leaks into the brain barrier and you wonder why you’re an idiot for the rest your natural life instead you just pop in the little thin knitting needle there interrupt the circuitry the muscle relaxes and then you’re you’re more your your %HESITATION wrinkles vanish it’s a miracle and I will talk about more about that probably not here button just so you know in case you’re pining for a little while the talks at the knitting needles this is the top of the hour from the progressive voices channel on tunein Carrie Harrison with you we are talking to Cheech and Chong’s Tommy Chong let’s talk about prison one of your favorite topic %HESITATION and Tom here you were in your son Paris is sitting here can you guys made freely available not marijuana but simply water pipes things of this and glass S. pipes glass pipes and the state of Pennsylvania %HESITATION well they they were pleased well that’s the home of the D. E. A. yeah so the set up a sting operation and they tried to get us to send shipment of bombs to beaver falls which is really the %HESITATION where the D. E. A. originated from and %HESITATION we wouldn’t do it so the buying the puts %HESITATION an undercover agent this is by %HESITATION they put an undercover agent in in the factory and %HESITATION agent sent the bombs to themselves and which violated some obscure law %HESITATION paraphernalia law saying that you can ship %HESITATION familiar through the mails examples like entrapment it was it was totally entrapment and but since we got rid of the Fourth Amendment is so much more convenient well you know it’s not a travel to diss the feds you know and to them it’s just like a watch to temptation and so the %HESITATION the charge me the first while the rate at the house %HESITATION five in the morning and it took all my computers and took all the bombs it could find and %HESITATION eventually charge me or wanted me to plead guilty to one count of %HESITATION stripping about long across the state line which I did and then the sentence be to nine months in jail which I also did the four twenty Casey a eight ten fifty AM one of two point three FM and one of six point five FM red you view is proud under the a flashing red boasts a fine discussing personal each call Sam on the oil on your finger remove this off in the course in self reality check live with Carrie Harris and we here on reality this story cast order any I heart radio Spotify to even Alexa with Amazon I want to introduce to you a couple of people and as you know were based here in Los Angeles and Orange County just south of us it’s a very important political area by the way and there are HIV services there primarily for LGBT people and it’s going to be shocking to people like what year are you saying there’s gay people in Orange County say it’s not true what would Devin Nunez say about that and lots yet another part of the conversation to be sure I want to introduce to you Tom Sensi amount from my glasses here because it helps I can fumble through the wrong name because I can’t see it or I can do the right one Tom sense he is a journalist in the founder moderator of L. G. B. T.’s that’s with an S. L. G. B. T.’s in the news with Tom sensei and next to him is Phil Yeager he’s the CEO and executive director of radiant health centers witcher formerly aids services foundation of Orange County and they’re both here because we’re going to get a bit of a some insight into what’s going on as we say behind the orange curtain and as we will say that we still say that or at least I do as we prevent truth decay and we bring out we out of the closet here we’re just gonna bring it all out into the open coming up may first and if you’re hearing this after may first it’s still just happened and and more will be coming is a big confabulation that L. G. B. T.’s in the news dot com is putting on along with you fell and your services arm to open up brand new discoveries about HIV of services right yeah I mean out loud this is Tom since he and %HESITATION yeah our panel series L. G. B. T. is in the news is %HESITATION the nation’s longest running LGBTQ live discussion panel series %HESITATION the tour is the nation we’ve been everywhere from the national Press Club in Washington DC to the us ever this girl to be T. center and %HESITATION the LA Press Club and all over the place radiant health centers on may first %HESITATION will be %HESITATION hosting our next engagement which is happening under the subtitle of the LGBTQ community health resolving disparities and overcoming barriers and %HESITATION I think that’s a good segue for Phil to tell that’s perfect so Phil tell us about these disparities and barriers we just assume well we’ve all been to the gay pride parade in Chicago and and west Hollywood and everyone gets along just swell and there’s no problems at all but in fact you guys are there for a purpose we are in the end typically barriers to care include medical professionals who perhaps don’t understand their LGBTQ patients the needs are how to ask the right questions %HESITATION stigma get us to give us an example because if if I were a hundred percent straight which I’m gonna just say I let’s just say alright the middle if I were I might say I don’t understand what that means they don’t know how to talk to people doctors like they don’t know what questions ask what questions would they ask a question right right well I I think there are some very unique health needs that L. G. B. T. people have and so understanding how to ask those questions in a way that doesn’t reflect discrimination or bias is critically important so let’s talk about what those needs are because it’s gonna be helpful for people to understand that there’s a bias if they understand what what’s going on I’m guessing what we all know about transgender people hints probably the most popular thing period it’s on television it’s on the news we have to present the United States embassy talking about it with military bands out we have fifteen thousand that’s one five fifteen thousand serving in the military is this isn’t some like weird abstract women going on somewhere this is ubiquitous throughout the human race and you guys have identified this and I guess most doctors don’t actually know you know how do you talk to someone who looks like this who who look presents as a man but inside feels like a woman right and and it’s everybody throughout the healthcare profession so from the initial intake for transgender person they’re going to be given a form and for a female house when their last menstrual cycle was is there any chance you may be pregnant for a transgender person to be faced with that type of questioning in those farms potentially drive them out of that office and not seeking care at all I think that think the duffel brings up a really good point I mean what what I have learned with this panel %HESITATION series since it launched in twenty thirteen going all over the country and having several %HESITATION %HESITATION trend of panelists who are transgender join me and and and help educate me and understand that you know what we’re really trying to arrive at in society is where you’re a person first right and %HESITATION a person who happens to be transgender up probably doesn’t want to go into a situation and I left till I love Phil take this point over a little bit more %HESITATION expertly but you probably don’t want to walk in there right off the bat and be presumed if you’re a transgender person be presumed to have all of the automatic stereotypes to go with one particular gender %HESITATION if you’re on a journey to find your authentic self you know it’s it’s really I think about recognizing the person with the health care needs at the gate way right and I you know I know you probably have a lot of listeners who are not necessarily %HESITATION focused on a %HESITATION is sort of a %HESITATION part expression lived hard way of speaking about these things so if that’s how this sounds let me just put it to you this way if if you want to walk into the doctor you want the doctor to know what you personally as a person are going through and why you came in the door not %HESITATION do you fit into a particular %HESITATION expectation or a a stereotype before Phil jumps in that I just want to reintroduce you Harris with you this is reality check live you can catch us any time a reality check live dot org were also live streaming on a variety of different platforms from I heart radio to even Alexa with Amazon too stature stitchers a great place to listen to what you can hear us live you can hear it on demand you can also catch videos a reality check live dot org we’re talking right now to Tom sends the he was the most recent voice he’s a journalist in the founder moderator of L. G. B. T.’s in the news L. G. B. T. is in the news dot com great place to go to find about about the %HESITATION may first gathering where all of this information is brought out and if you happen to live in Orange County which is a huge huge place south of Los Angeles you’re gonna want to know %HESITATION and Phil Yeager the CEO and executive director of radio health centers he’s making it possible for L. G. B. T.’s in the news dot com to be able to do this and felt well this is for I merrily for gay people and the only reason is gay people wouldn’t otherwise get the services it’s not like we haven’t we’re just gonna have you know a special set of curtains in there and they’re gonna want to its because they’re not getting the mainstream services exactly what you’re talking about on what if you’re a straight politician of which there are many who does not want to go to his regular doctor because it’s gonna get leaked out that he has HIV or chlamydia or an S. T. D. could he go to you anonymously and get full on treatment and never have to worry absolutely and prior to radiant health centers are name was eight services foundation Orange County as you mentioned earlier so we have a long history of serving people living with HIV and aids and about fifteen percent of those folks that we serve are heterosexual they do not fit into the LGBT community we’ve been able to very effectively provide them with services and care and however we still have seen five to six new HIV infections in Orange County each week and we know in order week each week so we had about two hundred and fifty new HIV infections last year so still this is a major health concern in our communities but I think the awareness around that has faded and most people don’t realize that let’s jump in and talk about something called crap now I see the word crap and we all think get ready well it’s kind of like that it’s free exposure moreover free for exposure prophylaxis that insist that RFID so so what so get this you you may not know this you may never have heard of this you may have no idea this exists we all know that condoms have always been the way since World War two in fact if we would go back to the seventeen hundreds and Dr Samuel Johnson to make it esoteric for twenty seconds here who wrote the first English dictionary his best friend pause well the great poet that we all some of us yes probably forbidden today in school now but now in the saloon Boswell learning is still in learning is okay learning is cool preventing tooth decay for short Boswell was a notorious womanizer and his diaries were just released ten years ago in Great Britain banned all this time while he created the first condoms out of sheep gut and one of them is sitting in Samuel Johnson’s house in London right near twining’s tea shop the first corporation ever in London from seven years to write a well we won’t know and we don’t know if it’s the original point is for hundreds of years condom use has been the only proper prophylaxis the US military issues that are has issued that might still even because they assume that when a soldier is on his own he may in fact commit an act of inter press to catia modern American it could not an American but it could have not an American law that said there is now a hill a hill that one can take on a daily basis that literally is as efficient if not more efficient than a condom way to make your saying you’re saying that there’s a pill now an actual way to not get HIV if you take the pill every day you’re not gonna get it if you’re compliant I think Phil has some good news for your listeners here he can tell us a lot about %HESITATION prep and prophylaxis in general and the nine I think it’s a ninety nine percent of reliability rate yes yes yes so prep or pre exposure prophylaxis takes that same medication that is provided to somebody who is HIV positive and ultimately renders them via really suppressed or with an undetectable viral load that same medication provided to somebody who is HIV negative can provide them with up to ninety nine percent of preventative barrier against the virus so that is huge yet it’s huge and and what’s even better about that just took to modify that little bits you understand the medication that is given to somebody who’s HIV positive is more powerful because it has it of many more things that it must do this is a gentler mode dial back by the two molecules and so basically it’s like taking a blood pressure pill every day and you can stay HIV negative and you can if you’re female partner or your male partner or whoever it is it’s these are real humans now we’re not all going to pretend %HESITATION has it or doesn’t have it nobody has to worry anymore this is this is game changing in twenty eighteen twenty nineteen and that’s without a condom however I think %HESITATION rating would probably say you should probably still use well for the obvious reason yet there other I mean or creaking allows well I mean I’d be probably I mean that was an air of the Victorian era was an era of a surplus %HESITATION %HESITATION epidemic and and I have a book that I need to share with you Tom that you’ve never seen I haven’t seen it either so I’m admitting this it’s a tie it’s only sold a doctor %HESITATION Johnson’s house it is the book of George in medicine and it has a a rendering of pause well skull with twenty five holes in the skull from from spirochete syphilis spiral aus yes so they saved his skull as a beautiful piece of art worn out you know what happens when you do that nobody and don’t treat it course there was no penicillin back that carry you have to %HESITATION traits that would drive my eighty D. crazy you if you have a plethora of %HESITATION trivia that I find fascinating and you’re not you know how to go off the track just like I well in a really fascinating way known speak a fascinating this is reality check live yeah and we’re coming to you what what you’re getting is a podcast what you’re getting at live we’re talking right now to Tom sends a who’s the voice you just heard he’s a journalist and founder moderator of L. G. B. T. is in the news with Tom sends the their website is L. G. B. T. news LGB tease in the news at all about how the T. S. in the news dot com say that thirty times as fast as you can next to him as a real super hero of Orange County Orange County is south of Los Angeles county and this is all those big let’s just call them what they are that the rich cities in California that we’ve all heard of the Newport beach is the Huntington beach is that’s where we’re talking about where people don’t talk or admit necessarily that they’re gay they just probably do it very quietly so that’s why these are radiant health centers have come about to actually offer treatment and offer help to people who need it including straight people so if you’re straight and you get a little Gbagbo from %HESITATION %HESITATION %HESITATION engaging in %HESITATION love making love love making maybe or osculating you do that with your labs and something happened you go to radiate health centers and they will take care of it nobody will ever know and you’ll come out fixed and this is an extraordinary time period and what you do is in fact unique that way because if you go to your regular doctor you may say all this rash %HESITATION it’s a sunburn and and then he doesn’t bother to get you checked right right so and that’s part of creating a health center sensitive to the needs of the LGBT community but then also welcoming to the entire community so as I was saying earlier providing services to people with HIV and aids we serve many people who are not part of the LGBT community and we know that as we expand services there will be others there will be people who will need our services and whole look for a place where they can feel double coming in and disclosing everything about their personal life without feeling judged or or in any way rejected and both of you get credit Tom sends in Philly acre for helping add the plus to the LGBTQ plus it is now plus officially plus a look around the room at night are you all nodding do you hear me it’s all plus and that now includes straight people absolutes and and actually if you’re not straight if you’re bad if your side ways it doesn’t matter still on it’s all the it’s one human family yeah one human family and sell your services are opening your the template for the right way to do it and this is what we’re hearing a lot of people and and and I’ve met straight people have gone your services how else what I know about the politicians seven we might have a case that one but I this is important I mean when people that have to make important decisions for us the end and we hope they do them right we want them fit and healthy we want them to be able to handle stuff well maybe even connected right yeah the communities %HESITATION and and connected by way of radiant health centers is one way to know another facet of of the Orange County because it is Boston from the Fenway institute which is the world’s foremost LGBTQ health think tank I think it’s fair to call this the organization and the institute %HESITATION just to a headline this panel engagement %HESITATION rating health centers has been so generous %HESITATION in making this happen is a chance to ask every question that you ever wanted to about the health care as it specifically related to LGBTQ people and our allies and straight people who might have issues and questions that they want to know about %HESITATION that they might not feel comfortable asking over Kaiser god bless Kaiser I love a lot I’ve had because there is great but this is another option for health care services and it’s important also to know that %HESITATION radiant is not the sort of a you wouldn’t think of it as a corollary to the free clinic as we used to say it’s not Justin thought STD clinic per se reading has multiple services including services for %HESITATION hope for homeless people written yes please tell us nutrition services mental health services %HESITATION transportation to and from medical appointment wow full continuum of housing services while a lot of prevention and housing services so let’s understand what that means so if if somebody were HIV positive or whatever and and were homeless you would help to get a place to live yes we can if somebody showed up on our doorstep tonight homeless we could place them in either a motel or a sober living facility depending on their history while learn more about this this untapped resource that a lot of people I mean you think that you know we’re kind of US soil in a silo sometimes %HESITATION in our various communities win the LGBTQ community have huge hearts are pockets aren’t as deep as people seem to think the you the whistle blower of the century he’s the template for Edward Snowden for Chelsea manning for all the other recent people of great notoriety of heroism and certainly people have become an allergy to the lot of people in power that’s for sure we’re talking about Daniel Ellsberg he’s the subject of the recent Spielberg film the post starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep depending on people’s different ages whether you’re listening to this on a stream or a podcaster hearing it live on FM or am radio Daniel Ellsberg was a former military analyst from the rand corporation he’s the guy that caused a big national uproar back in nineteen seventy one when he released the Pentagon papers which were seven thousand pages of highly classified defense department documents which were telling the truth about illegal activities with the Vietnam War he released those to the New York Times The Washington Post and lots of others well he’s got a new book out called the doomsday machine confessions of a nuclear war planner doomsday machine is based on Daniel Ellsberg experience as not only a former defense analyst but get this lot of us didn’t know what he is now one of the few living members of the group who devised America’s nuclear strike doctrines quick side note Daniel Ellsberg release those Pentagon papers actually eroded public support for the Vietnam War and get this it makes it possible for you and me to be here today because he brought about a landmark legal precedent in favor of press freedom something that allows reality check live to be on and growing everyday Daniel Ellsberg we’re so glad you’re joining us thank you and thank you for that warm introduction accretion was at a great nothing call me am I could go on for twenty or thirty more minutes easily well you’d night you know it’s one thing to have the president of the United States go after you but of course he can do things with the psychiatrists %HESITATION with people mucking around your finally I mean you really are suffered a lot of distress at the hands of that fist being on trial basically over two years was a strain but the real distress was suffered by Richard Nixon %HESITATION when his crimes he committed against me in order to stop me from telling secrets about him came home and it was a major factor in his impeachment proceedings that led to his resignation so that was true of a number of other people that he assigned to quote neutralize me %HESITATION Ehrlichman a Colgate will close our two countries Gordon Liddy they really all went down so they you know for once they suffered the fruits of their own crime now you or someone with a strong conscience I mean you went copied seven thousand department offense documents that revealed the %HESITATION with a from violence three years of deception by four different presidents of the American public because the why we were in Vietnam why we’re going and what we were actually doing what the costs would be what the risks were every aspect of that was lied about as is true today of course about the war in Iraq by our president and vice president and secretary of defense will me ask on an inspirational question there are those who will have access listening to the show right now to sensitive documentation but would not know and I don’t know if I should do or don’t do or what to think about it or what but there must have been no one actor one thing or or several %HESITATION moments combined that to inspire you to do the right thing to jump off the high dive into many millions of people’s lives and actually %HESITATION the result being that many lives were saved well one thing which is shared I think but hundreds if not thousands of people in the government today was that I knew unlike in at that time most people in the government in nineteen sixty nine president general Richard Nixon was going was reproducing the same deceptions and making the same secret service collection including but only nuclear escalation which again we’re hearing government threats of nuclear weapons used by the United States being on the table victim was making those threats but in those days when people worried about the Cold War of the Cold War and the world growing up if one nuclear weapon was used he had to make those efforts secretly now people are less worried about it and they really don’t but tonight when the president makes of such openly but in the case in sixty nine and I knew the world was going to go on and was going to get larger as many people now in government now and I thought that would be a disaster as many of those people do right now one thing that was different was for me was that I did meet young Americans and who were going to jail in large numbers to express their refusal to cooperate with the what they saw as a wrongful war which I also saw it hadn’t occurred to me before I met a couple of those firsthand were on their way to prison that %HESITATION that was a risk group because I could pay myself just as I was by body in Vietnam as so many are doing today if the troops can take those risks if I could have said that when I was a civilian in Vietnam why couldn’t I give up my career give up my freedom to help in the war with some chance when I saw it in that frame it seemed to me obviously the right thing to do Terry Harris with you were talking to doctor Daniel Ellsberg who about forty years ago copied over seven thousand pages on a Xerox machine of highly classified defense department documents also known as the Pentagon papers and brave possible imprisonment to reveal the truth about the crop Vietnam War were talking about presidential impeachment presidential skulduggery everything that completely resonates with today’s Surrey out this brings us around Daniel Ellsberg to the obvious question the elephant in the middle of the the mastodon in the middle of the room here given the unfathomable grotesquery is that we see happening in our government right now whether it’s Congress whether it’s the president hookers porn stars bribes emoluments you name it if we really found out the truth about all this stuff whether it’s Russia or if you’re a person of faith and it’s just grand infidelity if we really found out about all of this stuff could we depend once it’s public for the government to actually do something about it without be sufficient information washes her question that people ask me all the time and I don’t and I as good of other people I don’t really know why the Democrats as a minority are acting so passive and so afraid of their opponents of public Republicans didn’t act that way when they were a minority you’d hardly know the Democrats existed as a as a separate party why is the media being so compliant with government handouts people say nine eleven are scared them of the that the charge that they would be called unpatriotic cloud treasonous week on memory of Willie brown former mayor of %HESITATION San Francisco is the question of just the other day and he said it was before nine eleven nineteen ninety four Republican sweep which scared the Democrats that they have to become like Republicans to %HESITATION %HESITATION get in office at all now it hasn’t been very successful for them in any of these elections but they still seem to be doing it except for a few exceptions that I want to give them credit you know you were talking about heroes and %HESITATION thank you for including me in that class the fact is there a lot of heroes in this country that have inspired me and inspire other people civilians and military many in Congress or in particular in the executive branch to find somebody who’s willing to tell the truth at the cost of their career a rare and I think one thing we could do is to hold that standard up to our politicians and officials and say you’re not doing the job of protecting the constitution would you keep your mouth shut and your careers going rather than expose CryEngine unconstitutional behavior %HESITATION we’re we’re going to show you what the polls say may not see the light but they’ll feel the heat that’s that’s were getting ready to officials we have to offer them not that we can unelectable because you’re not elected to start with and they probably won’t be prosecuted if they keep their mouths shut we’ll be prosecuted by this administration because they tell the truth and that’s a price they should be willing to pay or certainly consider paying when so many lies search they carry Harris with you were talking to doctor Daniel Ellsberg the original whistle blower of the century and subject of the recent Spielberg film the post starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep got a new book out called doomsday machine and he’s one of a still living group who devised America’s nuclear strike doctrines and now we’re in a position where we might actually have to think they could be deployed Daniel Ellsberg if we decided to start a RCL that’s a reality check live whistleblower school and we’d love you to mentor the young whistle blowers of this generation I’d I’d love to it encouraging advice anybody that I’m not going to be telling them through what I did as a matter of fact I’ll be telling them don’t do what I did don’t wait till the war is started against Iran don’t wait till we do use nuclear weapons before you come out don’t wait for your memoirs I didn’t do that but I think a lot longer than I wish I could you can stop the war if you the truth about what’s going on in time that’s what I couldn’t do and that’s what I’m urging people to do thank you Daniel Ellsberg for letting us pre record this interview with us thank you for your fortitude your stamina and all American good civic engagement well thank you and I I hope it’ll encourage other whistle blowers to hear your encouragement because they really need to get a different set of priorities from what they’re working with thank sit here with you and we’ve been speaking to the whistle blower of the century the Pentagon papers doctor Daniel Ellsberg author of the recent book the doomsday machine confessions of a nuclear war planners check work they were all well they do you know nine not only was he one of our greatest he was a what he whirled introduce for from the universe the NPR this is All Things Considered is reality check live five the way we like perfect just the right amount of people Leslie Jordan from will and grace absolutely Ronnie crawl actor and activist yep congresswoman Maxine waters and a personal note to our old friend Nichelle Nichols lieutenant Uhura and which we read aloud it brought to you because she was very much no that’s really awesome yeah and the crowd it was incredibly big shout out to revolver for hosting us revolver we have they did a great job and you could follow us by the way anywhere on social media you can check out some of the pictures and come and join the fun we’re gonna of many many more of these to common that’s a promise Facebook reality check LV Facebook is reality check LV LV stance for life reality check all the same thing with social media at reality check L. V. check work should I use Huggies pampers or a cheap generic brand you are white toward the front all I know when my baby’s diaper Shelly parental wife with reality I’m mercy mallet trouble continues for Sinclair broadcast group the media conglomerate that recently came under fire for forcing its news anchors nationwide to read a pre scripted attack on rival news agencies the guardian reports that some clear chair David D. Smith admits to visiting the White House last year to pitch trump and other administration members on a piece of technology he wishes to force manufacturers to include all new mobile phones televisions and additional devices Smith claims that the meeting was not financially motivated saying quote I just wanted them to be aware of the technology and quote but mandatory adoption of the product would obviously be lucrative development forcing Claire critics accuse the broadcast group of conservative bias which denies it Smith openly admits to meeting with Canada trump during the twenty sixteen campaign and telling him quote we are here to deliver your message and quote do you think your workplace environment is tough or perhaps filled with slimy characters well chances are good that you’re still better off than one office in Thailand where giant lizards are falling from the sky yep you PI reports that a monitor lizard recently fell through the ceiling in the accounting department of one office landing uninvited upon a startled employees desk the woman in question reported that she and other nearby workers heard suspicious sounds emanating from above immediately before the surprise appearance of the massive reptiles the employees apparently screamed and fled then contacted wildlife handlers from a judicious distance away when the reptile specialists arrived they located the monitor in a keeper storage room where it was quite possibly hiding from the screaming employees officials report that the gargantuan visitor was later successfully relocated to its natural habitat in the wild proving once again that office work is just not for everyone Ali check live I’m mercy malice three cats and when they swing they love to get their women’s tennis player and you can listen one nine hundred hot whether you into a single you can be there National Football one nine hundred call now and work on your forehand while these hard core hard body serve up the highest ground is it well my one phone number is all you one a hundred that’ll right on the sweet spot checking the line Jerry Harrison here with you this is reality check live out introduce to you our news director mercy Malick and mercy and I’ve been together on public radio in the past it’s been awhile since we’ve had a reunion and it has been awhile hasn’t it it’s very exciting it hasn’t happened in several years it has been a couple years today may not be the actual for twenty day this is the big first national international day of marijuana of pot and it is being celebrated it worldwide and especially in California and Colorado where it is completely legal but boy is causing some controversies it definitely is so I just want to say for frame of reference Kerry I consider myself one of the best chosen advocates for marijuana legality because I personally cannot stand pot work it does not work with my physiology at all none of the happy mellow laughing thing just angry suspicious and stealing people’s food so really there’s no upside to that because of this when I say it is incredibly important in fact of paramount importance that any individual be allowed to put into their own body exactly what they choose I’m not speaking from a point of personal benefit it benefits me personally not one single bit but you know what I don’t like tomatoes either and I don’t think there should be illegal I don’t like okra and I do think it should be illegal more for me more for you well it’s very interesting two hundred million Americans are legally allowed to consume cannabis in whatever form if it’s this a TiVo or the indigo or whatever I mean it’s basically called Wanka we’d now because you have quite a wide spectrum of chocolate delights in flood threat level and the top administration is actually said they are going to withhold harsher penalties because they realize after Jeff sessions and others come repeatedly talk about states rights states rights states rights and it is legal in the state you can’t suddenly do what federal government is going to rule everything because I believe that’s what we’ve heard was has been the problem all along so thorough actually gonna see what the states will do as long as it’s in alignment with federal guidelines it’s very difficult to say states rights repeatedly bots just not her marijuana because that really is the largest problem facing America today yet marijuana well and we Mildred sitting there eighty eight years old in her double wide puffing on a joint with a can of Budweiser in one hand and a handful of rum built of run till Bon bons and the other god knows how many ISIS video she’s likely to watch especially if she’s high on pot Minaj definitely will increase the likelihood would isolate seizures we’re gonna play in just a couple of minutes an interview we did with Tommy Chong you also see the video of Cheech and Chong fame and he says we don’t know it’s anecdotal and I didn’t check but he cured his testicular cancer by rubbing cannabis oil on his John is not he bets for a number of months and he %HESITATION he cites that he is completely cured of this and his physicians actually support that one hundred percent that he is cancer free so we’re gonna hear from his own words %HESITATION and all of this just in alignment with the state that has gotten together democratically the people voted for this it wasn’t granted by the king or the governor Democrat or Republican the people got together and decided it was in their own best interest and I think we all can support democracy in whatever way it turns out it’s really interesting to carry because you hear so often people saying oh my vote doesn’t matter I’m just one person not voting is stupid when people feel motivated and really get behind an issue that’s what changes things so it’s a good example yes and it prevents truth decay because it is not a communist country yet cell let’s keep voting and by the way the day this was recorded also was the international walk out day with the students of walked out of their schools everywhere in order to protest gun violence and %HESITATION some what appears to be even growing and are a fundraising let’s say due to continue the ability to take machine guns in the schools whether it’s the teachers carrying them or the children it doesn’t really matter anymore and what’s it ng is guess what’s happening when these kids are walking out with getting registered to vote fantastic that’s what’s actually happening to the walk out is not some we gonna cut class they’re walking out to be registered to vote we’re also gonna play clip right now and this comes from trump’s new TV channel which is %HESITATION called out one America news news network which I have on direct TV and they’re siting at the reason the kids are walking out is because of women your people mercy MNR behind destroying children I I like the way you nurturers you and they create the children and then destroyed and then you destroy them so we’re going to hear from the horse’s mouth and this is not to say anybody is anti trump here it’s just kind of like a shocking moment to hear that officially said that women the ones that that crave often a to have the children and nurture them and suck on them on their breasts in and raise them and love them are also the ones destroying them and sending them into the jaws of death twenty for director well known for Cheech and Chong comedy movies with as well as playing the character Leo on fox’s that seventies show turns out Tommy Chong has successfully treated his prostate cancer using hemp oil that being the base oil from the common marijuana or hemp plant my dad when we whenever the kids were sick he’d he’d go Chinese on as many good herbalist and herbalists again this nasty tasting tea and maybe he would he be data to us kids and now I was very healthy you know who don’t buy all light because of that Chinese medicine and also it’s interesting %HESITATION that many of these herbs are I mean we know absolutely their prophylactic in that they prevent people from %HESITATION being able to get disease %HESITATION I mean there’s thousands of years of medicine there yeah and they’ve been deep and say they they had a great system the Chinese had a great system what the emperors did they paid the doctors to keep them healthy but if they got on healthy and they died they would kill the doctors it seems reasonable yeah so so %HESITATION so the doctors had a incentive to keep these guys healthy versus a disincentive yeah and so what they did they discovered acupuncture and the reason they discovered action point shoes they would study the them back in the day they they fought wars with bows and arrows and you know the source in that and they found out that some people that would get wounded in one area with an arrow yeah it would help another area they would you know the points this so they started studying the human body with with the you know with the points with the arrow thing then the refine it down to little needles and then they found this the circuit electrical circuit your body and then when they discover tai chi was the same way the way the discover tai chi was the they find out that the key to health was would be circulation late to the watch nature and they would see that a folk pond a water would wasn’t flowing it would became stagnant and and pull the disease and so the the realize that the human body is ninety percent water and so the bar in a way to keep the the circulation clincher and the way they did that they studied animals in the study the way cats moved to the way the birds would ruffle the feathers in and saw the Thai chi movements impact their names like the tiger claw in the in the in the clean and all that stuff sold the Chinese yeah I I’m very into China well you know it’s very interesting %HESITATION you talk about acupuncture they’re now using acupuncture to a place botox feature because it interrupts the synaptic connections the electrical connections between the muscles much instead of putting it you know botulism toxoid in there which then leaks into the brain barrier and you wonder why you’re an idiot for the rest your natural life instead you just pop in the little thin knitting needle there interrupt the circuitry the muscle relaxes and then you’re you’re more your your %HESITATION wrinkles vanish it’s a miracle and I will talk about more about that probably not here button just so you know in case you’re pining for a little while the talks at the knitting needles this is the top of the hour from the progressive voices channel on tunein Carrie Harrison with you we are talking to Cheech and Chong’s Tommy Chong let’s talk about prison one of your favorite topic %HESITATION and Tom here you were in your son Paris is sitting here can you guys made freely available not marijuana but simply water pipes things of this and glass S. pipes glass pipes and the state of Pennsylvania %HESITATION well they they were pleased well that’s the home of the D. E. A. yeah so the set up a sting operation and they tried to get us to send shipment of bombs to beaver falls which is really the %HESITATION where the D. E. A. originated from and %HESITATION we wouldn’t do it so the buying the puts %HESITATION an undercover agent this is by %HESITATION they put an undercover agent in in the factory and %HESITATION agent sent the bombs to themselves and which violated some obscure law %HESITATION paraphernalia law saying that you can ship %HESITATION familiar through the mails examples like entrapment it was it was totally entrapment and but since we got rid of the Fourth Amendment is so much more convenient well you know it’s not a travel to diss the feds you know and to them it’s just like a watch to temptation and so the %HESITATION the charge me the first while the rate at the house %HESITATION five in the morning and it took all my computers and took all the bombs it could find and %HESITATION eventually charge me or wanted me to plead guilty to one count of %HESITATION stripping about long across the state line which I did and then the sentence be to nine months in jail which I also did the four twenty Casey a eight ten fifty AM one of two point three FM and one of six point five FM red you view is proud under the a flashing red boasts a fine discussing personal each call Sam on the oil on your finger remove this off in the course in self reality check live with Carrie Harris and we here on reality this story cast order any I heart radio Spotify to even Alexa with Amazon I want to introduce to you a couple of people and as you know were based here in Los Angeles and Orange County just south of us it’s a very important political area by the way and there are HIV services there primarily for LGBT people and it’s going to be shocking to people like what year are you saying there’s gay people in Orange County say it’s not true what would Devin Nunez say about that and lots yet another part of the conversation to be sure I want to introduce to you Tom Sensi amount from my glasses here because it helps I can fumble through the wrong name because I can’t see it or I can do the right one Tom sense he is a journalist in the founder moderator of L. G. S. in the news dot com say that thirty times as fast as you can next to him as a real super hero of Orange County Orange County is south of Los Angeles county and this is all those big let’s just call them what they are that the rich cities in California that we’ve all heard of the Newport beach is the Huntington beach is that’s where we’re talking about where people don’t talk or admit necessarily that they’re gay they just probably do it very quietly so that’s why these are radiant health centers have come about to actually offer treatment and offer help to people who need it including straight people so if you’re straight and you get a little Gbagbo from %HESITATION %HESITATION %HESITATION engaging in %HESITATION love making love love making maybe or osculating you do that with your labs and something happened you go to radiate health centers and they will take care of it nobody will ever know and you’ll come out fixed and this is an extraordinary time period and what you do is in fact unique that way because if you go to your regular doctor you may say all this rash %HESITATION it’s a sunburn and and then he doesn’t bother to get you checked right right so and that’s part of creating a health center sensitive to the needs of the LGBT community but then also welcoming to the entire community so as I was saying earlier providing services to people with HIV and aids we serve many people who are not part of the LGBT community and we know that as we expand services there will be others there will be people who will need our services and whole look for a place where they can feel double coming in and disclosing everything about their personal life without feeling judged or or in any way rejected and both of you get credit Tom sends in Philly acre for helping add the plus to the LGBTQ plus it is now plus officially plus a look around the room at night are you all nodding do you hear me it’s all plus and that now includes straight people absolutes and and actually if you’re not straight if you’re bad if your side ways it doesn’t matter still on it’s all the it’s one human family yeah one human family and sell your services are opening your the template for the right way to do it and this is what we’re hearing a lot of people and and and I’ve met straight people have gone your services how else what I know about the politicians seven we might have a case that one but I this is important I mean when people that have to make important decisions for us the end and we hope they do them right we want them fit and healthy we want them to be able to handle stuff well maybe even connected right yeah the communities %HESITATION and and connected by way of radiant health centers is one way to know another facet of of the Orange County because it is a let’s we’re gonna wrap it up with your your event coming on may first it hit may have already come I like to pause there now and I may have already happened at all and that’s good which means there’s more to come but tell us about how to get in touch with you net and they can have special food and other things because you know I gotta say in LGBT world you always get sign language and you always get vegan dishes that’s well we will definitely have %HESITATION American Sign Language and interpreters present and we will have a box lunch for everyone there you got four choices vegetarian non vegetarian vegan I think we have to begin option others no charge for this but please come not for lunch come to learn and to engage and to ask questions Dr Sean Cahill is actually flying in from Boston from the Fenway institute which is the world’s foremost LGBTQ health think tank I think it’s fair to call this the organization and the institute %HESITATION just to a headline this panel engagement %HESITATION rating health centers has been so generous %HESITATION in making this happen is a chance to ask every question that you ever wanted to about the health care as it specifically related to LGBTQ people and our allies and straight people who might have issues and questions that they want to know about %HESITATION that they might not feel comfortable asking over Kaiser god bless Kaiser I love a lot I’ve had because there is great but this is another option for health care services and it’s important also to know that %HESITATION radiant is not the sort of a you wouldn’t think of it as a corollary to the free clinic as we used to say it’s not Justin thought STD clinic per se reading has multiple services including services for %HESITATION hope for homeless people written yes please tell us nutrition services mental health services %HESITATION transportation to and from medical appointment wow full continuum of housing services while a lot of prevention and housing services so let’s understand what that means so if if somebody were HIV positive or whatever and and were homeless you would help to get a place to live yes we can if somebody showed up on our doorstep tonight homeless we could place them in either a motel or a sober living facility depending on their history while learn more about this this untapped resource that a lot of people I mean you think that you know we’re kind of US soil in a silo sometimes %HESITATION in our various communities win the LGBTQ community have huge hearts are pockets aren’t as deep as people seem to think the whole double income no kids thing is a myth but where do you think it’s just so uncool double income no kids is very nineties thing but we we’re we’re we have welcoming hearts and we would love to see you may first in Costa mesa at eleven AM that’s a Tuesday night or more information which the best way to do it is to go to L. G. B. T. the S. in the news LGBT as in the news L. G. B. you helped us define the absolute clear difference between good and bad there was always a moral essence to what you did and what your show debt and we’re so thrilled to be able to talk to you today in this exclusive one on one thank you as nobody better than the fans of doctor you know they really know what they’re talking about and what we’re talking about to them you know what the show is about in the nineteen sixties %HESITATION we had at the voting rights act show us rolling out yeah gene Roddenberry who people may not know but this guy was not a wash cloth he was a World War two bomber pilot absolutely and he was one of those cool guys who went back to see what happens when you do this bombing yeah and have this in light meant that so piece is really the better choice yeah and made this obviously very radical choice that we’re in the middle of the Cold War you know and he puts a communist he puts an African American he puts a of the Japanese guy the Hebrew miss one all of us that’s right one of old in outer space yeah as officers so not only were you a woman a black woman then an officer in nineteen sixty five in color yeah wow yes it was a while people %HESITATION they came down and would stand outside if they couldn’t get them just so wait till we came out to shake our hands and the telephone a wonderful live show was so how how much they appreciated what we were doing you know %HESITATION and a person specifically they would tell you what you’re up to yeah I agree and the it was wonderful and you are a pioneer really of much of the women’s movement %HESITATION a voice for the African American world we’re talking planet earth of which we now have seven billion humans and you were very much the template for how we get to look at ourselves absolutely absolutely and it was it was wonderful to be that person to do not to be chosen to to %HESITATION live that life funeral and to represent up not only your own personal people people like you but people who aren’t like you and and we had that kind of following there wasn’t a matter of black white yellow brown or green you know it was us you me you may hear me in a I understand that a doctor Martin Luther king would talk to here and there because it wasn’t always very comfortable for you I mean you were kind of a loan on TV it wasn’t like there were other people prime time in living color on in minutes at on NBC I’m saying MSNBC up and he came to you and I think probably coached you to stay the course right yeah as a matter of fact you really got that because I was going to leave the show said to me you can’t don’t you know who you are what you mean to people you can go we got through us I couldn’t go even though when you first start out on on that you do you think nobody’s going to care everybody cares because you’re representing them you’re talking to like we’re talking to one another you’re talking of a person the person about something very important to the world in a who we are and what we’re dealing and it makes a difference well speaking of making a difference other than the fact that I’m starstruck and I’ve talked to a lot of people but I’m delighted to Kerry Harrison here with you were talking to star trek’s Nichelle Nichols a tentative hoorah of course became famous aboard the USS enterprise the Star Trek television series between nineteen sixty six in nineteen sixty nine as well as succeeding motion pictures lieutenant Horan Nichelle Nichols here was groundbreaking because she was one of the first African American female characters on American television not to be portrayed as a servant she also later work to recruit diverse astronauts into NASA including women and ethnic minorities you had the first in human history that we know of interracial kiss yeah on television yes game changing yes yes but so did my family truly when you were handed the script you may not have thought of it as an interracial kiss know when it’s on TV yeah I mean it was very clearly planned the first interracial kiss on television anywhere and I said it is all that’s interesting and I didn’t think of it as that wow yellow but people kept coming up to me and are relating in the conversation how incredible that less than that going it is and the but in my family it just simply wasn’t because that I come from a widely in a racial family if you realize your different all of it plays with your mind you know how diff different from what well I’m no different from anybody else and all of different from from me and then my family there’s everybody in the world note of black white yellow brown and red and and I’m not joking enough so it didn’t seem strange to me in any way to be out in the world the White House today and the whole sort of interesting political structure were like back in these basic struggles once again will be out of them before you know it because we don’t put up with that we don’t we don’t come we don’t live that life and life has to move out of the way for everyone and and %HESITATION that’s just the way it is like it or not that’s the way it is yeah life is for everybody your favorite Star Trek episode anytime and get to get off the bridge they had made a lot of bad press but I have this really is an responsible job I never got them bring so I told them but I think there was a map of so when when experience many times we all know you but you don’t know us when we walk up to you like well Hey let you know you I know you I know every last one of you out there because I’m I’m I’m part of you you’re part of the unknown live long and fast Star Trek John Nichols tentative Laura joined us as she has yet another birthday in her eighties after celebrating more than a half century in the Star Trek franchise and raising multiple generations who were sweet spirit and gentle nature Kerry Harrison with you this is reality check law reality check live with Carrie Harrison check live Roseanne Barr did have sex but that was way back in the planet Hollywood days John Stossel one way so are things hooked up Lucien the man of the starship enterprise I’ll make we need more sharply on the bridge if we’re going to make that blue light special on came months before it ends in than watch someone and the strange right analysis I’m sorry Mrs captain I’m experiencing a swing vote on the bridge Mrs is under attack by heart I’m yeah make your book that he wrote this is captain keep your hands to yourself but report to my quarters in fifteen minutes alright of course the first and largest in reality reality check live I’m mercy Malick a recently discovered **** super submarine that sank off the coast of Denmark more than seventy years ago may have been an escape sub for **** fleeing to South America live science reports that the subs a tight except one U. boat which helped fifty eight men all of whom died when it sank in nineteen forty five during British bombings although the war ended before the Germans could launch an actual fleet the designs water and battery systems could keep it running under water longer than any other submarines at the time the uncovered shop more to Denmark see war museum is the most advanced German submarine known to have been built during World War two where the sub was heading remains unknown though several have speculated that Norway was a likely destination multiple theory suggests that this super sub may have been the only one ever launched as the only other example of an access one currently sits in a museum dry dock in Berlin and now for your political minute coverage of the meat to movement may have diminished since its height in the fall of twenty seventeen reports of sexual harassment have not Coachella one of the world’s largest music festivals which takes place in the California desert once a year is reportedly not immune to sexual assault in fact quite the contrary in an article published by teen vogue and widely shared by a social media journalist Vera pops over reported being groped twenty two times in a ten hour period spent at the festival site Papa service says she talked to fifty four different women who also said they had been sexually assaulted during the first weekend of the festival loan sexual assault at music festivals is a worldwide phenomenon prompting organizer’s from California’s lightning in a bottle to Sweden’s pro ball of festival to take measures ranging from onsite medical and counseling teams for victims to wristbands bearing the slogan don’t grope for reality check live I’m mercy Malick ask Jerry Harrison here with you this is reality check live when I left network radio and came over to public radio I started with Roseanne Barr just to see how she was on the air but relocating the whole why so we did it together for quite awhile and back then our politics will pretty much in alignment pretty basic my best way to look at open minded what’s really true the best that we can get out of and with the reboot ever news show it looks like a one eighty to a whole lot of people I can’t explain what this all this but what I can do is provide you a discussion which may offer some insight I sold my soul to the down when I was twelve so that I could become famous in show business without having to lose any weight I’m course it happened years later you know I forgot all about it and then when I sing the star spangled banner I realized as from the devils come back so I had to meet with them I invited him over Fargo and we had dinner there and I have asked for a refinance job on you know the whole soul thing and me and him got into a really deep philosophical discussion about the nineties in the stock market and how it has a real happy ending and I I just I just want like a massage yeah the ending bell I recall when you announced your presidency are here your run here you’re too for that matter as prime minister of Israel house at the same time I remember you had mentioned that you would spend a night with Rush Limbaugh do I remember that’s right we did have sex but that was way back in the planet Hollywood days and he’ll just lost a lot of weight in and also our things hooked up on you know after one I decided I thought I knew right away threw up in right away I knew right away that I had made a mistake you know I just couldn’t continue with it so I understand I had a I had to maybe hurt him a little but you know sometimes you have to do that very like I’m sorry you know sure we had a great night which wasn’t so great you know sometimes it’s just two ships in the night and only last one night site one gets a nice one no one that he borrowed his friend’s **** went down to the Dominican Republic to get the you know yeah minimum wage prostitutes down there and not like I guess that’s kind of how he comforted himself for a long time person with you were talking to Roseanne Barr about just the meaning of life generally from a perspective of somebody who’s been in the middle of humanity for so many years articulating it in the course of fiction through allegory through a metaphor %HESITATION carrying satire that’s our yes yes in fact speaking of Mark Twain did you see his book it did you see that book that he wanted published a hundred years I came outside yeah I got it it’s so genius he’s so right on about the place and time were living in right now I mean the guy sought a hundred years out everywhere should pick that up you should offer that in the in Europe and a pledge to great I like this back and there’s two volumes well he was too without him people would have understood about the Spanish American war I mean things that were popular and told that we had to do it or else the he was the lone voice yeah he certainly was he’s everything that every comic like secretly wants and hopes to be the guy was hilarious and out what a social critic and I mean all of us can have our little marks going in that we we wanna hook up and be like that reality check and when they swing they love captain their women’s tennis and you can listen one nine hundred hot whether you into a single you can be there National Football one nine hundred call now and work on your forehand while these hard court serve up the highest ground is it one phone number is all you one a hundred that’ll right on the sweet spot NPR and this is All Things Considered reality check live with Kerri Harris and Carrie Harrison here with you when we have something special for you because were a non profit we want to make available L. web domain your dot com or dot org is we have it at an affordable price that’s right so if you’d like to have a website if you’d like to have a dot org or a dot com red dot whatever’s in your imagination you can go to big Willie Byrd dot com Bigley get it at Bigley bird at dot com that’s part of reality check live and by going there you’ll be supporting even in that tiny little way the cost of us putting the show together and keep it going for you and getting on many of our a talent guests happy to do it for you we care about you don’t just hate the media be calm the media get your own dot com get your own website communicate and help others Bigley bird dot com that’s Bigley bird dot com I wanted to do you hear on reality dot for going to force or we out LV I wanted to to rob me who is doing our here with Beck why because it happens to be about %HESITATION a quarter of the U. S. population so it turns out in some way or the other queer frontier it is a front here I mean think about it it was nineteen ninety seven when Alan came first bursting through the kindling ever closet door on ABC was immediately fired up and that began the Petri dish so when you say for a gay person well you know you go on a date you go how do I do that ask the founding fathers will who are they what we don’t have any so this is the test to it is still developing it is still a frontier absolutely actually since we’re in LA I have to %HESITATION have to mention this because a lot of people don’t know in fact a lot of people in the LGBTQ Calumet up don’t know everything LGBTQ plus that the modern LGBT Q. movement didn’t actually start at stone wall in New York at actually started right here in LA and I live far at the black cat tavern years two years before Stonewall exactly ninety sixty seven black cat tavern which is still there and several like and that’s sort of started this movement and this frontier is still going and it’s still relevant you know it just because that’s such an interesting story at the black cat two years before famous stone wall which everyone thinks is the beginning of it because it happened in New York City Judy Garland had just died and let’s just say the drag queens were agitated Judy Garland had just died the cops come in with their batons start beating up drag queens the drag queens struck back right things to come for two years before that the LAPD notoriously would come into the gay bars to do the same thing but Judy Garland was still sing it on stage so it wasn’t time yet caution warning overload system overload surprise why yes they do and so really it’s it’s very mainstream as well it’s just that you know we still kind of thing can and and the laws are still a little bit and ambiguous but it’s a civil rights movement and we contribute a lot I mean imagine Disney land without us imagine TV without us imagine fraud when you brought it right it’s not going to have all of entertainment yeah in fact logo logo TV and RuPaul’s drag race a highly successful %HESITATION show to say the least a has a huge audience on in middle America women heterosexual so yes we’re definitely you know we’re not just talking to an educating and entertaining LGBTQ but as well just everyone who’s interested so a lot of people who are because this audience is broad when I helped start the gate channel on Sirius XM I think it’s like fifteen years ago now %HESITATION it was very intent was just to give programming that would reach gay people and we ended up having ninety percent of the listeners were straight people because we would and and this is to your point we would just talk about stuff that straight people at the time weren’t allowed to talk about like do men have feelings with you this is of course reality check live you can check us out a reality check live dot org our social media at reality check LV LV stands for live at reality check LV sipping a Facebook at reality check LV and we’re talking about the queer frontier what is happening in America with our fifteen thousand a trans gender troops that are active right now in combat many of them summer flying drones who knows it’s we’re not allowed to know where they are but we do know these numbers so it is throughout the U. S. population always has been since the beginning of time and were talking about where this movement is going and why it’s actually important I’m one of the things that’s gone on just in recent times is this notion of assimilation where we all sort of blend into the population that ultimately kind of disappear but there is something edgy about gay people would you say absolutely you know its %HESITATION assimilation is good but also keeping to %HESITATION to your to the unique culture and it is %HESITATION there’s nothing wrong with that either yeah I’m gonna give a personal story arm I’m just gonna out myself here you’ll see I’m not looking on Cameron looking at Tony sweet I am that way Tony yep that’s true that’s it you said it and my twin sister or twin sister is also that way so my twister is of the lipstick lesbian variety so one hundred percent of my parents offspring are enchanted that said there is in my opinion something unique that gay people have and it is that you can understand one hundred percent how straight people look at the world and think and feel but you also have this sort of add on that they may not have access to which is you have to run a full Secret Life as a complete and fully functioning second human being on stage all the time with your real person in the background the relationships are secret everything a full on full second life simultaneously to your other life that’s a lot of work well it’s we’ve come a long way it’s changed quite a bit and and %HESITATION %HESITATION kids now %HESITATION don’t necessarily have to do that at least not in bigger cities obviously there are a lot of %HESITATION there’s still a lot of discrimination and harassment and and bullying and all of that but certainly you know when I was in high school I had to %HESITATION but **** up and %HESITATION sort of pretend I was straight right it wasn’t an option thankfully the younger generations who are taking over actually don’t have any notion of straight gay in between who cares doesn’t matter and that’s pretty extraordinary because that’s where you find the truth if it were true that one is better than the other day with still harness that opinion of course they would yeah absolutely I think ultimately the LGBT Q. rights movement is about the right to be average yes so that’s definitely where we want to end up running toward the middle worldwide where we have were average and it’s a non issue yeah you know we don’t have special rights but we’re also not discriminated and we just you know we it’s a non issue and I do meet %HESITATION %HESITATION you know %HESITATION straight %HESITATION of people in their twenties or even teens where you know it’s it’s very passe for them the whole gay lesbian trans bisexual it’s a non issue and that’s a that’s a huge progress %HESITATION that we’ve made but of course some of our some of our progress in some of our rights and some of our %HESITATION some of what we fought for %HESITATION are actually being threatened right now as as you yes we do an add on for those of you listening may be on one of our a a radio stations %HESITATION you might think that this is just a choice this just a flavor like I want to wear a hat this is my hat it’s a biological imperative and if if somebody really actually thought it was a choice you have to ask yourself therefore as a full heterosexual male you wake up every morning and you make a choice to like girls I’m gonna like I’m I’m gonna I swear I’m gonna like girls today you actually never think about it if you had to make that choice every day then who knows what you might choose so nothing is a choice and this explains ten percent of sea gulls ten percent of dolphins hang winds and get this eighty three percent of giraffes are same sexual wrote I don’t know why maybe it’s a long neck whatever it is it doesn’t really matter we get to look forward to a lot more actually note history down the road here in reality check live as %HESITATION our queer frontier with Vic continues to unfold and you’re going to captain these stories and bring us stuff we never knew about whether it’s Alexander the great who conquered most of the known world to our greatest thinkers poets philosophers the man who invented the computer ally turns alone Michelangelo carving away that piece of marble that everybody seems to like and all the rest of it how it works why it works and the science and the biology behind it too so it’s very exciting and and let me just give a plug for your the blunt post dot com please vote for more information go to big Willie Byrd dot com Bigley yet that’s more information at Bigley bird dot com we can now sure we Jerry Harrison here with you this is reality check live reality check life dot org also reality check LV reality check sitting with mercy Malek and network taking democracy god well this alleged blue wave going to happen it’s not gonna happen and really it can only happen if it’s a wave not a trickle or a droplet which means people have to go vote what we saw recently with the %HESITATION just in the past number of weeks in fact when the parkland kids showed up and we saw by the hundreds of thousands and then we had the recent walk out of school where they left and it wasn’t because well they’re you know they’re playing hooky now when they walked out the or getting registered to vote right which means if they actually show up and do that voting it’s gonna work now let’s understand what is voting mean when you do it in big drops we saw in Alabama the our favorite judge Roy Moore had a file in chief jammed from the local shopping malls because he liked to do the little Groby task and well beyond what will never even know he was a guy famously in the late nineteen nineties when I was just %HESITATION doing early reporting he was received he was being full lated under the judge’s bench that detail escaped me and it makes his failed attempt that them all the sweeter while the ten commandments word to light fully and the lovely hanging over his head as opposed to a new switch Ayman news because ninety seven percent of African American women showed up in Alabama and he went away this goes to show that despite the gerrymandering despite all of this stuff if you show up in sufficient numbers it will work care I want to go back to the under desks elation for yes and yes without widely known publicly but not in the media or how was that kept out of the media or was it in the media and still no one came he was a Yankee up in Alabama north of us and I was fascinated with this guy he was not particularly controversial but I was appointed as were under desolation at azan reversal for other people that weren’t in pickup trucks with rebel flags and shot guns in the back window that somebody was hanging the ten commandments in a court room that’s we the people ten commandments separation of church and you know and it’s not just me pure Jewish may be your point is to maybe you’re nothing and you know the founding Daddies were deists not Christians DS and the only the only example of any religiosity whatsoever is in the rotunda and it’s right up on the ceiling in a circle and it it looks more like Quakerism sort of this inner light vat set eight know Jesus eight now got this doesn’t I’m not making a declarative religious statement I’m saying the founding Daddy’s because remember King George was the head of the church and we were saying goodbye to the king so you have to say goodbye to the head of the church and and you know and then you’re at the self serve pump after that well and in theory if you believe in the constitution it doesn’t matter if someone was is in agreement with your particular religion or not because if you are the one who’s on top today you might be the one who’s on bottom the next day not saying anything against bought it we’re not in no way denigrate that any sort of position that you might choose to take doggy missionary in any number of different situations book but the point being if you believe in the constitution or you believe in separation of church and state many things should be together church and state we believe should be separate in America so when you say %HESITATION what separation church state except from going to hang the ten commandments and Maron you’ve you’ve violated irreparably just can’t happen Harrison with you this is reality check live reality check check live dot org social media at reality check LV we’re talking a little bit about voting and and we’re going to actually get to the point although we have very much enjoyed the lead up to four play up to the plot of the play here and that is that people feel so disenfranchised and they should gerrymandering is real %HESITATION the birdie voters here in Los Angeles where were based we saw the state of California during the primaries it was Hillary versus Bernie and then you had trump on the other side and we saw Bernie voters just specifically as a numerical proposition which is what we’re discussing we’re not saying one is better than the other but tens of thousands of Bernie voters were purged off the rolls by apparently the DNC at the time including bring me my entire Harrison my entire street vanished off the voting map yes it’s true fascinating so at this point I’m I should say full disclosure I began as a volunteer for the Sanders campaign and then became an employee after that but my experience of the primary day in California twenty sixteen was being awoken abruptly by my phone completely going off and I start answering and its person after person that I knew from with in the campaign people who are well educated who know how to fill out a voter registration form such as yourself I’d say who they won’t let me vote they won’t let me vote my name’s on the role of the names from what it was astonishing this within a couple of people wasn’t a little smattering of people it was most of the people that I had been working with at a fairly high levels so all day long I’d never leave my house care except when I myself want to vote I’m there in my pajamas just phone phone phone phone telling people go down to Norwalk they must know what is city outside of Los Angeles quite a drive not not at lunch time trip right but if you drive to Norwalk they were required to give you an actual physical valid if you were after regular polling place all they would give you as provisional and as we know provisionals yet they were gonna during the bush administration provisional ballots because apparently of a couple hundred thousand people of color had been purged off the voting rolls strangely simplicity ministration through the famous John Ashcroft for my super heroes came up with the provisional ballot which is you could walk in you could say oh that I’ve been purged off the voting rolls a we’re so sorry Mister Smith here’s a make believe provisional ballot and under the bush administration they don’t actually need to be counted how they don’t actually need it by law to be counted so never may I underscore that never get a provisional ballot so let’s talk about the solution here mercy we overwhelming numbers all these kids that were registered that walked out of their classrooms %HESITATION to boycott the NRA to boycott simply being shot while sharpening their pencils and doing art class %HESITATION walked out and were registered to vote how do we get them to actually remember that there was a reason they were registered and to show up I think that consistent activism is a really important thing and and this might be controversial what I’m about to say but %HESITATION there’s there’s been a sort of movement at least on social media in recent years saying %HESITATION denigrating certain topics that people become active in as not important enough or %HESITATION you’re interested in save the silkworm you should be interested in of clean water internationally clean water internationally is vital but doorway activism is a real thing and I think it’s the tiny step that keeps people aware the keeps them educating themselves that prevents them from just throwing up their hands me like I can’t create clean water anywhere I’m just going to a video games and whatever nothing wrong thing that he gets I’m saying in exclusion of being aware being active it is vital that we don’t attack people for something that they feel passionately about even if we feel that it’s %HESITATION it’s small issue it’s Sucha because being an engaged citizen is what leads to being an engaged citizen which leads to voting which leads to making sure that your community count your vote house vote paper ballots better actually counted house polling places that are open they don’t require standing in line for eight nine hours as happened all over the United States in the last presidential election I don’t feel passionately at all about this Kerry I know that’s how I know that and and so that’s why I’m glad we talked about it because you’re you know foam is coming out of your ears and mouth just you’re in a cold water metallic state yes and and this is good and as we close this segment it’s important to remember that when in doubt head out that voting actually works %HESITATION if you do it in sufficient numbers to your job is to get together with your neighbors and everyone else and just show up and do it because guess what it scares the hell out of the bad people because they don’t want you to vote and they’ve made it almost impossible bringing back Jim crow laws other sheriffs in the south that when you shop on the polls on Tuesday tell you %HESITATION it’s next Tuesday in and they are by law allowed to say I made a mistake I looked at the wrong date on the calendar that part’s not illegal so we know all the tricks but what they don’t know is there now millions and millions of kids from eighteen to twenty five who are going to show up and that’s the good news and we’re here just to vote yes vote yes on that behavior Harrison with you mercy Malek here with you this is reality check live more straight ahead truth hello just like the old days in nineteen hundred and thirty two was only fifty years old yep old timey radio with a modern west complete with retired union full operators and thank you vacuum to Bodil processors gather around the wireless the Japanese Shuster field there it is time for all local Harry’s news story time live this you can re tell it the way or more firstly this week well it’s not just Indiana California’s Attorney General is now stepped in to quash one of those statewide ballot initiatives that allows anyone to propose a law with just two hundred Bucks and enough lunatics to sign a petition the new sodomite suppression act would allow Californians to assassinate random gaze under special death penalty provision just think a mere accusation to be terminal a specially for any closeted golfing buddies at California’s many Country Club you know we should don’t even more money the sodomites suppression is gonna clean up this county chance welcome to the club Bruce today Chad would you want to refer to as certainly salted sea snails and niece why I think someone just well I have to take a whiz join me in the men’s room was certainly Montini usually own fruit loses a broom hold you drink only because my drink I will I’ll help you will then I and we would just Tinker away by yes you your entrees are ready will be right down I’m coming my goodness you are not a U. parts are in his hand just means no sign of it so I goodness I have to get out my Smith and Wesson course lawmakers had to find a way to work in the second amendment a fight sodomy and there is your reality by legal check everybody carry Harrison here reality check live is a non profit and as such can provide affordable access to some of the daily things we all need like internet websites dot coms are a dot org if your nonprofit like us to get a dot com or a done anything or spruce up a new or old website for more information go to big early bird dot com Bigley yet that’s more information at Bigley bird dot com NPR and this is All Things Considered very Harrison here with you this is reality live I want to introduce to you our news director personality and mercy and I’ve been together on like radio it’s been awhile since we at our reunion and last night it’s very exciting it hasn’t happened in several years it has been a couple years today may not be the actual for twenty day this is the big first national international day of marijuana of pot and it is being celebrated it worldwide and especially in California and Colorado where it is completely legal but boy is causing some controversies it definitely is so I just want to say for frame of reference Kerry I consider myself one of the best chosen advocates for marijuana legality because I personally cannot stand pot work it does not work with my physiology at all none of the happy mellow laughing thing just angry suspicious and stealing people’s food so really there’s no upside to that because of this when I say it is incredibly important in fact of paramount importance that any individual be allowed to put into their own body exactly what they choose I’m not speaking from a point of personal benefit it benefits me personally not one single but but you know what I don’t like tomatoes either and I don’t think there should be illegal I don’t like okra and I do think it should be illegal more for me more for you well it’s very interesting two hundred million Americans are legally allowed to consume cannabis in whatever form if it’s this a TiVo or the indigo or whatever I mean it’s basically called Wanka we’d now because you have quite a wide spectrum of chocolate delights in flood threat and the top administration is actually said they are going to withhold harsher penalties because they realize after Jeff sessions and others come repeatedly talk about states rights states rights states rights and it is legal in the state you can’t suddenly do with the federal government is going to rule everything because I believe that’s what we’ve heard was has been the problem all along so thorough actually gonna see what the states will do as long as it’s in alignment with federal guidelines it’s very difficult to say states rights repeatedly but just not for marijuana because that really is the largest problem facing America today marijuana well and we Mildred sitting there eighty eight years old in her double wide puffing on a joint with a can of Budweiser in one hand and a handful of rum built of run till Bon bons in the other god knows how many ISIS video she’s likely to watch especially if she’s high on pot yes I mean I definitely will increase the likelihood would isolate seizures we’re gonna play in just a couple of minutes an interview we did with Tommy Chong you also see the video of Cheech and Chong fame and he says we don’t know it’s anecdotal and I didn’t check but he cured his testicular cancer by rubbing cannabis oil on his John is not he bets for a number of months and he %HESITATION he cites that he is completely cured of this and his physicians actually support that one hundred percent that he is cancer free so we’re gonna hear from his own words %HESITATION and all of this just in alignment with the state that has gotten together democratically the people voted for this it wasn’t granted by the king or the governor Democrat or Republican the people got together and decided it was in their own best interest and I think we all can support democracy in whatever way it turns out it’s really interesting to carry because you hear so often people saying oh my vote doesn’t matter I’m just one person not voting is stupid when people feel motivated and really get behind an issue that’s what changes things so it’s a good example yes and it prevents truth decay because it is not a communist country yet so let’s keep voting and by the way the day this was recorded also was the international walk out day with the students have walked out of their schools everywhere in order to protest gun violence and %HESITATION some what appears to be even growing and are a fundraising let’s say due to continue the ability to take machine guns in the schools whether it’s the teachers carrying them or the children it doesn’t really matter anymore and what’s interesting is guess what’s happening when these kids are walking out with getting registered to vote fantastic that’s what’s actually happening to the walk out is not some we gonna cut class they’re walking out to be registered to vote we’re also gonna play clip right now and this comes from trump’s new TV channel which is %HESITATION called out one America news news network which I have on direct TV and they’re siting at the reason the kids are walking out is because of women your people mercy MNR behind destroying children I I like the way you nurturers you and they create the children and then destroyed and then you destroy them so we’re going to hear from the horse’s mouth and this is not to say anybody is anti trump here it’s just kind of like a shocking moment to hear that officially said that women the ones that that crave often to have the children and nurture them and suck on them on their breasts in and raise them and love them are also the ones destroying them and sending them into the jaws of death twenty director well known for one of the Cheech and Chong comedy movies as well as playing the character Leo on fox’s that seventies show turns out Tommy Chong has successfully treated his prostate cancer using hemp oil that being the base oil from the common marijuana or hemp plant my dad when we whenever the kids were sick he’d he’d go Chinese on as many good herbalist and herbalists again this nasty tasting tea and he would he would he be data to us kids and now I was very healthy you know who don’t buy all light because of that Chinese medicine and also it’s interesting %HESITATION that many of these herbs are I mean we know absolutely their prophylactic in that they prevent people from %HESITATION being able to get disease %HESITATION I mean there’s thousands of years of medicine there indictment deepen say they they had a great system the Chinese had a great system what the emperors did they paid the doctors to keep them healthy but if they got on healthy and they died they would kill the doctors it seems reasonable yeah so so so the doctors had a incentive to keep these guys healthy versus a disincentive yeah and so what they did they discovered acupuncture and the reason they discovered acupuncture was they would study the them back in the day they they fought wars with bows and arrows and you know the source of that and they found out that some people that would get wounded in one area with an arrow yeah it would help another area of the you know the points this so they started studying the human body with with the you know with the points with the arrow thing then the we find it down to little needles and then they found those the circuit electrical circuits are bloody and then when they discover tai chi was the same way the way the discover tai chi was they they find out that the key to health was would be circulation late to the watch nature and they would see that a folk pond a water would wasn’t flowing it would became stagnant and and pull the disease and so the the realize that the human body is ninety percent water and so the bar in a way to keep the the circulation clincher and the way they did that they studied animals in the study the way cats moved to the way the birds would ruffle the feathers and install the tai chi movements impact their names like the tiger claw and the and the and the crane and all that stuff sold the Chinese yeah I I’m very into China well you know it’s very interesting %HESITATION you talk about acupuncture they’re now using acupuncture to a place botox feature be because it interrupts the synaptic connections the electrical connections between the muscles much instead of putting it you know botulism toxoid in there which then leaks into the brain barrier and you wonder why you’re an idiot for the rest your natural life instead you just pop in the little thin knitting needle there interrupt the circuitry the muscle relaxes and then you’re you’re more your your %HESITATION wrinkles vanish it’s a miracle and I will talk about more about that probably not here but just so you know in case you’re pining for a little while the talks at the knitting needles Carrie Harrison with you we are talking to Cheech and Chong’s Tommy Chong let’s talk about prison one of your favorite topic %HESITATION and Tommy here you were in your son terraces sitting here can you guys made freely available not marijuana but simply water pipes things of this glass glass pipes glass pipes and the state of Pennsylvania %HESITATION well they they were pleased well that’s the home of the D. E. A. yeah so the set up a sting operation and they tried to get us to send shipment of bombs to beaver falls which is really the %HESITATION where the D. E. A. originated from and %HESITATION we wouldn’t do it so the buying the but Sir an undercover agent this is by %HESITATION they put an undercover agent in in the factory and %HESITATION agent sent the bombs to themselves and which violated some obscure law %HESITATION paraphernalia law saying that you can ship %HESITATION familiar through the mails examples like entrapment it was it was totally entrapment and but since we got rid of the Fourth Amendment is so much more convenient well you know it’s not a travel to diss the feds you know and to them it’s just like a watch to temptation and so the %HESITATION the charge me the first while the rate at the house %HESITATION five in the morning and it took all my computers and took all the bombs it could find and %HESITATION eventually charge me or wanted me to plead guilty to one count of %HESITATION shipping Bob long across the state line which I did and then the sentence be to nine months in jail which I also the four twenty report everybody carry Harrison here reality check live is a non profit and as such can provide affordable access to some of the daily things we all meet like internet websites dot coms are a dot org if your nonprofit like us to get a dot com or a done anything or spruce up a new or old website for more information go to big Willie Byrd dot com Bigley yet that’s more information at Bigley bird dot com check reality check live use view Franklin mint is proud collect what makes it so just made from ten percent years of front of the court a flashing red boasts of fine and speak directly to gusting personal we mutual straw a person each call sample of which will embedded from the oil on your fingerprint let’s double Canadian the N. S. Franklin mint because it’s only a to move this off in the Korean self destruct check

  • reality check live with Kerri Harris and a slight shock drinking gasoline not only tasty yeah but you might want to wait a few minutes before you light up you now stunning revelation over to and Americans have been living with no running water for drinking water here right here in the it states guns guns and more guts our president addresses the NRA why else do address each other all that and more he had taken over your radio are now in control crank up your radios volume or we can turn it down solo that you can barely hear back and mess around with the bass we can crank up the trouble we can blow out your left speaker while my we can even make your radio sound like a broken CD we are in total charge we are in complete control Jerry Harrison here with you this is reality check live reality check life organs course all social media at reality check LV check out the talk about water something that all the mammals on the planet including amphibious friends need we as human beings are some ninety percent water in our own bodies and if you live in Los Angeles which is where we’re coming to you from or the whole area we depend on things like the caller Otto river and the goodness of the people of Utah and other states because they could just literally turn it off when they’re fourteen million people where every drop matters what does that actually mean well that’s why we have with us George McGraw he’s the founder and executive director of dig deep dot org dig deep dot org and they’re the only non profit serving nearly two million Americans without a tap or a toilet at home this is a standard that such a thing exists George you’re not among that number I assume well in the building I live in but that’s a whole different the average Joe nineteen thirty one Marilyn Monroe’s very first department I don’t know where that is on frankly we at its on a well I’m not gonna give the address but we should definitely give the address list yet you’re on the air %HESITATION %HESITATION we have a plumbing issues much like flint Michigan in many ways they are our plumbing is over ninety years old yep and the pipes have decided no longer to participate in the a fad of continuous running water they like to leak into the walls are just fall apart in other parts of the United States where the pipes serving water underground or something of wood really yeah our our infrastructure in the US is so critically dis invested like to the tune of more than a trillion dollars in that you know we’re seeing it issues like flint pop up all the time I mean look at Puerto Rico a good portion of population there still doesn’t have any access to running water after the storms and %HESITATION it’s those of the Canary in the coal mines and you’re right right and that’s hardly a boot to yeah that could be remediated but one would have to want to want to help farmers are checking the reality that’s exactly right renting truth decay George McGraw just for full of transparency disclosure went to %HESITATION cordon on %HESITATION where do your path meets does matter and god someone absconded with me from as an early age from that tells you never had to suffer growing up there the minimally back to water so let’s talk about it it’s shocking this is the first time most of us will have heard and when I met you the first time I had never heard this I mean I knew before %HESITATION FDR in and before electrification during a light ball but I’m not getting it’s a miracle it was a game changer but the notion of two million people two million the average size city size in America is what thirty thousand people twenty thousand within two million people no toilet no tap water what do they do whispered all across the country and everyone coax a little differently than if they’re close enough a lot of the people we work with will get in a car and drive twenty five fifty miles round trip and buy bottled water but that gets really really expensive and so in some of the worst hit places like in Rome New Mexico Arizona were working I see families wake up and grab a bucket and walk a couple miles to a live stock pond or a trough and haul water home maybe boil it in a lot of places that water is dirty bacteria uranium crazy stuff %HESITATION and we’ll just have a a gallon or two and that’s all the use all day for cooking cleaning drinking baiting and you’re right that most Americans have never heard of this most Americans take their water completely for granted you know the average American uses hundred gallons of water per person per day more than anyone else in the world yeah and %HESITATION and here we have this problem right now middle of our own country and I’m guessing they have to make a gallon last maybe days now they’ll make it stretch yeah %HESITATION I was just out on the Navajo Nation where we do a lot of work which is the country’s largest reservation in New Mexico Arizona Utah and %HESITATION visiting one of our clients there and she had gotten a gallon of water and she used it to wash some vegetables and then she put that water in a pot and use it to boil some pasta strained out the pasta to get the living room washer grandsons and granddaughters here with that and imported the back of a toilet tank and flush the toilet with well I think our president would say that’s a good American and do nothing about it this is appalling and shocking at the same time because we know can be remediated we know that we are awash in cash so much so that we’ve given a trillion dollars in tax cuts to people who simply don’t need them that trillion dollars could supply I would imagine ample water if applied so you know the next question looking at a tweet here why isn’t this on CNN why isn’t this in The New York Times not the you have the answer but I imagine that probably might be a should we see a speculative answer well here I did write an actual op ed in The New York Times thought you does not ruling it out but no this is this is not something that’s on the tip of everyone’s tongue United States I think issues like standing rock where where I myself has been a lot of time when Porter Rico these are the this is the first time that the that the American psyche has ever been caned with this water and it’s the first time people are waiting on me like %HESITATION what’s gonna happen to me if I wake up tomorrow and can turn my tap on %HESITATION but you’re right it’s it’s not on the top of everyone’s tongues yet I think for several reasons one the populations that affects their these out of the way people and out of the way places that we don’t like to spend much time paying attention to right I mean it’s something like flint is perfect proof this is a socio economically marginalized community of color in a community that hasn’t been invested in a long time and that’s how the city manager’s got away with it %HESITATION at least for a time poisonous water yeah because it’s a it’s a population that no one cared to pay attention to known advocated for I’m just gonna re introduce you here quickly be sure oz %HESITATION radio people come and go to get in and out of their cars shockingly George McGraw founder and executive director of dig deep dot org dig deep dot org and they’re the only non profit serving nearly two million Americans without a tap or a toilet at home George’s been published in The New York Times the LA times the nation several law reviews has been profiled by our sister stations on NPR also one vice and CBS so you are ubiquitous yet get around you get around that’s what I’ve heard and that’s why you’re here today for after the show job getting that the behind the scene that’s a behind the scenes which we are twenty eight as well on Facebook live on let’s talk for a bit of a good for just a second but the difference between a water charity and a non profit water organization like yours because people will get confused and not know where to put the love yeah sure well we look at the difference in what we do is that we look at water sanitation is a basic human right yeah so what we do for people is not charity right right it’s not just a nice thing we believe that if you are an American that doesn’t have access to this basic thing that you need to live your life with dignity and peace and health then that’s an injustice someone somewhere is responsible for that %HESITATION and so we are pulling all the levers we can %HESITATION to bring resources to communities and empower them to do something about this themselves the narrative for so long has been a you don’t have this basic thing will wait in a way it’ll catch up with you we have a market model for this I’m in that’s called Switzerland yeah yeah and you know it it’s work from so many of us it’s to the tune you know to the to the to the point that now most Americans take water completely for granted but there are still there is still this persistent you know at least one point six million people in the U. S. who don’t have it and and those are the ones who want to really shine the spotlight on and do some so safety dot org your nonprofit yeah did I mention it was a nonprofit I think so your nonprofit dig the this is kind of important you’re so we know that that give me you are actually doing serious heavy lifting out there bring you water to people and we’re going to end the conversation George McGraw by the way Kerry Harrison here with you this is reality check live reality check live dot org and get a podcast of this in any other broadcast at reality check live dot work where you back with us on everything from I heart radio to %HESITATION Amazon selects a you name it the whole super cat pizzas you gonna be able to hear this again and again if you want to really kind of understand the issue let’s send George with Los Angeles yeah which happens to be where our studios are here we’ve got a a larger LA basin popular the fourteen million people every drop of water does not come from here it comes from very many states away down the Colorado River down this and that can now if somebody just decided to blow up a dam or turn it off or just runs dry I mean how susceptible is let’s say palm springs at a hundred and seventy degrees Fahrenheit where you can’t even grow %HESITATION a wheat nothing Russia I mean talk about desperate independent yeah I mean one in seven Americans relies on the Colorado River for their drinking water and that’s not to mention the agriculture and the industry that depend on the river %HESITATION you’re right I mean we have a really della kit beautifully invested in series of water infrastructure that allows us to live in places like palm springs but it is it is delicate I don’t know if you were paying attention March when it almost came down today zero in in %HESITATION South Africa in Cape Town that you know that’s that’s the Canary in the coal mine is the first major city in the world almost run out of water and now they have enough water to last maybe another year maybe a year and a half but if Angelenos and Americans in general don’t wake up to how precious this resources and we’re not gonna be able to solve this problem for the two million Americans who don’t have it and in fact that number is probably going to grow as you know climate change and dropping things make it harder for us to get so so each of us that you know if it’s yellow lot of mellower sorry I’m learning so much about you today I just I’m just reciting you know childhood rhyme and he taught me right up these sorts of things this is a a smart mode like the more you and I individually save the more aggregate water is actually left remaining though Nestle we’ve all grew up with Nestle candy bars Nestle’s a tiny Cup a huge caught on to your Christmas in a tiny countries what’s on the size of Rhode Island owns one third of earth’s water which means you and I are going to start to pay baby much more than we do now you know it’s interesting word this word this point now where a corporate interest do you own a lot of the water resources and so far they have had a a market incentive a profit incentive to keep those water resources healthy so in fact you find in a lot of places ironically my work the companies like Nestle are investing more money in making sure those aquifer’s are healthy and stay productive than local governments are because they’re the ones that you know are are are pumping him for cash and %HESITATION its waters the waters a strange strange place but I do wish people would in United States especially I wake up and realize that %HESITATION how good we have it and how how bad we might have it in the future if we don’t if we don’t do something so with you this is reality check why we’ve been talking to George McGraw he is the founder and executive director of dig deep dot org one word dig deep dot org you can learn more about the very water that you require whether you like it or not the water that is and I understand your relationship with it and how to have as much of it as you can’t responsibly and not let it go dry it’s as simple as that dig deep dot org this is reality check live reality for a reality check live I’m mercy Malick and this is your science minute Australia has earmarked three hundred seventy nine million dollars for a plan to halt the demise of the Great Barrier Reef located off the east coast of Australia the entirety of the world’s largest coral reef is in danger of dying due to increased global temperatures a recent study published in the journal nature revealed that reality check live beyond live dot for you follows on social media after reality check be reality check LV cast anything else anytime anywhere for any reason I want to as always say hi to mercy Malick our news director and today we’re going to talk a little bit about the recent speech that our president gave in front of the NRA he stood a during these Russian investigations were told repeatedly that he could never never never go before a grand jury because he couldn’t lose two minutes of being the president’s schedule is to cite people it’s it’s overloaded but he jumped on a plane and went to Dallas and gave a forty four minute speech spent the night had a great time or terrific it was terrific was a big lead time and and the people’s business somehow magically got done non the less %HESITATION and while there was pointing out we need more guns bigger better guns and that while he’s president %HESITATION guns would not be under siege but guns by the way are under siege at the same time yes that was a fabulous quotes so he said he said dot watch you don’t know NRA folks people are concerned with the second amendment that your rights are under siege the second amendment is under siege and I want you to know that as long as I’m president it is not under siege so why are you not president because this would be really welcome news to a lot of us or the delicious irony is that it happened on your watch body right arm and then the idea of increasing the amount of weapons now I mean it was over it let’s give them to teachers will give them to the cops and security guards the grocer’s the bankers the lawyers and just arm everyone to the teeth that we know in the wild west if anyone is seen west world sure it’s a little dramatic but not exactly on real if all you have is a sheriff who also has a gun so whose guns are bigger and badder I wonder well the interesting thing to remember also is that a mere few months before the center a speech trump was advocating confiscating people’s illegal guns whatever his definition of that might be without due process so that’s a really interesting kind of blow with the situation and I’m quite certain that his NRA friends really really jumped on him for that as anyone who’s interested in due process ought to no matter what particular item you’re talking about it just seems like things chistes shoot out of his mouth and they bear no resemblance to any free pre thought plan any sort of cognizant message well to him it is I mean he’s the master of starting a sentence like this and single by the way and then you go off number here and then there’s a by the way in the by the way and it’s great and you’re right down the rabbit hole but all of it makes sense to the people who want one or two things so all the rest of it suddenly doesn’t matter and right now it’s just you know the second amendment it and it’s a good thing to talk about the second amendment as opposed to just say as he says you know the second amendment is great but what is it when we look at the history of this country and and my family came over may flower and then we also fought both sides of the revolutionary war by the way this is not something that’s taught in the history book has your bets most of us had started bats %HESITATION any fought for both sides just in case but you want your side to win rally at the smart move if you let the king build all the infrastructure build all the city’s polemic because the cobble stones put up the buildings the river ways once it’s all built you tell I’m just a you know can we say that it’ll be believed %HESITATION yes down will that be believed can’t is democratic and that’s American business still today issue let somebody else build it and once it’s built you sue them and they have to go away this is how Donald Trump has built his empire but he’s suing the little guy yeah that’s not the king the people the Donald Trump sues or just refuses to pay the invoices I’ve are the little mom and pop companies of which there are scores were forced out of business business through his predatory practices so great businessman man to emulate years and we’re not we’re not at all we’re big fans of Donald Trump and we think vaguely and amazing in the most handsome man she ever left leg he’s the smartest in the greatest large you know we’re we’re just kind of talking about the optics of all of this sucks at which evaluating the optics of it and so in the second amendment it talks about a well regulated militia does not talk about Timmy going home with his machine gun a well regulated militia let’s take a refrigerator a refrigerator has a regulator on it a regulator makes it cooler or warmer depending on how you turn the valve and so well regulated militia it means it’s well supplied but also means when you’re done with the guns you put them in the armory you don’t take them home as your souvenir and then use them on demand so that’s what it meant and it was about malicious because we didn’t have a national army we did have a national tax base we don’t have a national government we were being occupied by the British so was purely so that each neighborhood if you will or region could get there people together could get their arms together and use them for military purposes owned Lee to defend themselves against the British until such a government was formed and the rest of it so these militias have always been codified into law is being necessary and required but well regulated not individual you know I am not my own militia where I could just take it home and do what I want and that’s the key thing that’s important here until the Supreme Court decided to go in favor of you are your own militia just like corporations are people to my friend Yasser us now this is where Kerry and I do not always agreed down to every single tiny hair this is where we might have a slight point of departure I grew up in the in the desert southwest and I grew up with guns and I grew up in a situation where gun education was very important and people having guns at home in in many areas that were far outside of the reach of law enforcement if you needed them would take a very very long time to get to you or you’re in an inner city situation where they’re just probably not going to come or not for a very long time that was a common part of life for us so if you’re someone who like me grew up with that as a reality where it really was a necessity to have a fire arm a firearm for protection full of machine gun can end not a flame thrower which wouldn’t even be covered I think you’re allowed flamethrowers now but my point being when we talk about gun regulations we’re talking about sensible regulations not busting into people’s houses and confiscating anything that looks like a revolver that it’s that’s where I think people start circling the wagons as it were yeah and saying no no no no don’t take my gun started my god that’s not what most people are talking about most people are not talking about just going in and taking guns we’re talking about things that make sense for everyone no one needs no one needs a military grade assault rifles for hunting or defending your personal property and it’s it’s reasonable to hot I mean really that’s not right part of it is not my thing but it was complete once had hunting rifles these are muskets muskets back in the day when the second amendment was made critical and you don’t the average NRA member does want regulation they do want mental health checks but is the very top of the NRA movement the sellout insults they’re allowed for cocoa puffs and they represent many millions my father was a big NRA supporter of course he did want machine guns and did collect them %HESITATION he had a Schmeisser MP forty sub automatic machine gun from World War two at lugar’s a rabbit’s right shooting rabbits arms and yes any rabbit that’ll move anything that dresses like around anything that could be rhabdoid or rabid that said he was not one of the more sensible thinkers he would’ve made a great leader of today’s NRA but the average person is reasonable they hunt %HESITATION they do whatever they do they might need it as you said for personal protection if you live in an area where that makes sense but we’re not talking about arming people to the teeth and frankly the the ridiculous city that the government is going to come after you and you’re going to be able to shoot drones are you kidding it does not matter what you own if the government wants to come get you that’s gonna hurt we’re in Los Angeles so if you don’t live here which you probably don’t necessarily we have squad cars that are so militarized every ninety seconds it’s basically a tank goes down the road one wrong move and you were blown into molecules you I don’t care what you collect you’re a dead dock if they come after you cell and we don’t say this to frighten people we just want to abuse you we will next up clowns juggling armed we we just want to kind of get it back into the realm of logic like so much of the gun debate as it were is just a motion to motion emotion and people are hurting other should be no guns in people years and we should all have guns but don’t gun should be mandatory obviously the vast majority of us live in the middle where we can think critically and agree together okay these are rights they should not be rights right regulations are part of society anything we’ve run out of time hear mercy but because I am not okay honey you’re allow you can hear hear that yeah okay out of time did you just do that to show me how I did that so because I have an Italian segments but let me just say this if we’re going to have this much passion but the second amendment let’s have the president stand up and do it for the first well yeah well time is what I say Paris with you this is reality check live reality check live dot org check three of check reality you this is reality check live check live dot org you can follow social media reality check LV LV a lot check out the sitting next to picture Robby this is the we’re frontier with Vic and Vic you know we were where it you know sort of always in pride season now generally it happens in the summer %HESITATION where in the summer region right now right and people wonder is it still relevant like why he is still the pride you you’re allowed to get married go home get married shot up yeah it’s it’s interesting because a couple years ago after %HESITATION marriage equality without you know people started to just kind of talk about it but he really decided that it was no longer necessary but the conversation started and %HESITATION yeah we’re back to being pretty sure that it’s still very necessary and very relevant usually pride season in the states start with long his pride and starts the longest pride which comes up in a couple weeks and then all summer long different cities throughout the world and palm springs pride was his early first weekend in November closes the price season so it’s a long pride season if you haven’t been to a pride before I think of it as it’s it’s %HESITATION New Orleans during %HESITATION Mardi Gras it’s it’s a a big gay cuckoo and there’s five hundred thousand people and and our studios here in Los Angeles at the universal broadcasting network here at sunset Gower just a mile from here five half a million people they’re all gonna be straight most of omits half a million of them they love it it’s a big festival it is in every city it’s slightly different and it’s evolved through the years %HESITATION in some cities it’s a little bit more political like San Francisco in LA it’s a little bit more of a festival feel although you know there’s still a lot of activism going on %HESITATION in some cities throughout the world it’s more of a contained in one neighborhood or one sort of part of town where in other cities like London where I was last year it’s like the entire city %HESITATION so it’s it’s kind of cool to go to different cities throughout the world and and see how they do pride and and in the relevancy like last year in Los Angeles was the first ever time that the big gay pride parade became a resist March cracked it was a flash back to the late nineteen seventies exactly where the first LA pride happened and started at Hollywood and highland so last year’s was this March which is very timely %HESITATION right near where the Academy Awards or how exactly it started there and %HESITATION you know we had %HESITATION congresswoman Maxine waters and Adam Schiff Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi and many dignitaries and elected officials joined and we walked all the way from Hollywood where the Oscars happen all the way to west Hollywood where the festival was taking place so it was a sort of a once in a lifetime kind of in the van to us it was great to see so many people come together and died this year at some we’re not gonna have a resist March were back to the same %HESITATION unit at Dublin right that time but the idea that we’ve had and that’s exciting and yeah it’s a it’s pride season just can’t believe it’s already here so how do we answer the question is pride still necessary %HESITATION people assume now that you’re married go home like everything is great you’re just completely equal right up and down the road like everyone else but it is not true not even remotely true no I mean it’s you know if we felt any sort of comfort and be no brief for second after marriage equality and president Obama’s era when his administration did a great deal to advance us %HESITATION in LGBT rights %HESITATION we’re seeing a lot of the a lot of that being under threat yeah and certainly marriage equality is not the and I’ll be right now the trans community is being targeted they’re the easiest target %HESITATION sell our struggle is still you know happening not not just worldwide obviously but even here in the states sadly %HESITATION even in Northern Ireland where you know a Baker has a big serve national a case happening in the courts right now in Northern Ireland where a Baker refused to bake a cake for a gay couple now personally if someone does want to bake my cake I’ll just go to the next one absolutely I’ll give you my money right but but it’s not just my opinions about a four for a larger issue exactly same thing and as we wrap this up in Turkey words now like totally illegal to like think gay thoughts if you’re caught yes so in Turkey as as you mentioned a couple of days ago the Turkish government made %HESITATION any events any LGBTQ event what so ever completely illegal that will mean a birthday party for your eleven year old kid if he happens to be gay it could be the most conservative art gallery gathering or a theater or film screening wind has long as it’s L. G. B. T. right related or produced or what so ever it’s illegal which is sort of crazy it would be tough if you were a Christian and you were celebrating pope stamp the as the ninth we used to have all those gay orgies arm that would be hard to even talk about it because I could be illegal yes so you know you know another example of human rights violations have Turkey country desperately trying to join United at the European Union yeah and yet they’re going back to the dark ages so it’s it’s kind of sad to see that’s a definitely pride is very much relevant very much necessary for us to to do pride and not you know pride is not just for LGBT folks we want our our straight allies and friends and family and everybody to come out and %HESITATION %HESITATION walk with us and celebrate with us and good stuff there it is the queer frontier with Vic you can check them out any time at the blunt to post one word the blunt posed dot com the blood post dot com terrorists with you this is reality friend with after it stuck in the back of my mind and one day I was there and I saw the plot and I went into the office Hey is that for sale like yes it’s for sale and it was a god awful amount of money that he paid so it was really a god awful amount of money that I paid so I thought well you know what if you can buy the Hollywood sign which he did I can buy it you know the plot above him in Maryland wrote in a wait for him to kind of expired spire is a nice word and %HESITATION and we’ll try angulation and and and all but I have a three way yes and that be part of a very the Hollywood community so I added it the story into my documentary and into my life and you know you’re the second person in two days there’s talk to me about this but yet nobody who knows they all know about it but nobody is really talking about it into what I did was I put my plaque up while I’m living it says Jonathan Baker nineteen sixty two mind you mellow died in nineteen sixty two so she could be my mother I mean or maybe related to me Norma Jean Baker Jonathan Baker and it’s %HESITATION and it says nineteen sixty two to stay tuned and underneath of it is my motto in life which is life is by design that we design everything that we do and whether it’s today or into the future and everyone else you know what I’m gonna do with this and I’m like no no no no I get to be immortal while I’m living and I get to that moral when I’m not living in more important you know you look around the cemetery and is everybody the despair of pasta does Merv Griffin there’s %HESITATION %HESITATION %HESITATION and I’m just gonna jump in for a second %HESITATION Merv Griffin by the way lived up the top of the street from me yes big flying saucer has those notorious boy party yes to Chinatown is a friend of mine so I yes I I never went to the boy parties but I learned about them but you went to the girl parties which were just fine yes as as I understand I just because I produce you we’re talking right now to Jonathan Baker Jonathan is the subject of a documentary called becoming %HESITATION iconic and it’s based on his first directorial debut which would be obviously the first when you can have a second date directorial debut unless you’re very talented inconceivable which is that on Netflix now so if you really want to see the film it’s inconceivable and the becoming iconic will be available on in %HESITATION August first so and you’ve achieved access to really all the biggest players yes Faye Dunaway one that we all know my dearest arm and and she’s a piece a work out owe you have I know I know because I’ve run into or in many of the whole show I loved her she broke her leg %HESITATION two days before the shoot they wanted to put her in a wheelchair and I can I said absolutely not I will not do that to Faye Dunaway and she showed up and she was a lovable devote but she’s a diva and I like I am a diva so it takes to develop they’re gonna talk to each other and they were gonna get productive year or we’re going to have a cat fight right and we had fun and at the end of the day she’s it through and through professional love everything about her she you know she did Thomas crown affair won an Oscar for network if you go to the Beverly hills hotel she’s got a picture one of my favorite pictures of all time which you sitting there at the pool with all of the trades in all the magazines and our Oscar sitting right there I mean you know whether you are working in the business or with your dreaming about the business or whether you are just part of the the the the the the the wedding of the business you at it you got to be a band to be in love with the journey and and that’s creativity comes from that that fan base that so we’re talking to people who watch the movies and again you don’t you can watch becoming iconic on Netflix or you can watching consumer one Netflix and I always want to hear what you have to say of course as you all have something to say and you make me a better film director you make me a better actor because I’m actually that’s right actually act in the movie a lot of people don’t like my acting and I look at it on the road with my act is one of the not the star you know that’s how I look at it the same thing and radio and video first with you this is reality check live reality check live dot or you can follow us any time on social media at reality check L. V. at reality check LV get our podcasts on every single streaming service you get videos of this the same thing it’s absolutely ubiquitous on NBC radio as well as public radio coast to coast we’re talking right now to Jonathan Baker Jonathan is the subject of a documentary called becoming iconic and it’s based on inconceivable the movie that he mentioned that is on Netflix anytime anywhere probably any country you can get it you could see it and we’re having a quick chin wag here about what it’s like to be with these high profile actors and you know you’re in this intimate space with them so they’re not puffed up the same way as they would be in in a rather nice they are how are they are they are only I mean you know what everybody has a different demeanor and the all the cloth is cut differently Hollywood it looks like it’s fine and it’s frivolous and it’s a lot of work and people are a lot of work but you know as my mother says to the why you do this why why owners who we torture you right you Dracula people you know you you you’re you’re begging for you go to can you beg for sales you try to make things happen it’s never always goes the way you want and like it’s like being in love it’s just like you can’t tell somebody not to be a lot of you you’re just you’re there whatever it is that you love in life that’s what you choose and that’s the journey you go down right and that’s the thing Jonathan Baker your hard wired to do it there is nothing you can do as well as this you’ll love it you hate it it’s fabulous you dream about it you you cannot not do it yet and survive an artist who does not art parishes yes and this is the nature of an artist you either commit suicide and posthumously I guess celebrated or if you’re lucky you get celebrated while you’re still ticket yes and you even got your burial plot next to Hugh Hefner and Marilyn Monroe seep into a right it’s all marketing yes it’s all getting because it there was a madman there was a guy named George Lewis who discovered Tommy Hilfiger and Tommy came in and said Hey I’m just working on a band guy I want to do fashion designer and and he said you know what I’m gonna put you next Giorgio Armani this out becoming a comic stardom about you next to %HESITATION Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren animal to put you there in strips of three and he could you can’t do that I’ve never done anything will now that you are going to be next to them you better do something because you’ve got something to prove so he did it and lo and behold I merely became Tommy Hilfiger and that’s a true story so I thought to myself of drew Barrymore’s some guy can go out there going to date with Drew Barrymore why should I go out and talk to him going to die with her too well if she’s in a day would be done away but you know I mean I’ve you know but at the end of the day I said you know what I’m going to go and I’m going to be the end of the night adding get that far I I wish I would have gotten that far but and so I wind up saying you know what I’m going to go out and we ask all these directors basically what their devices yeah because the studio would always Jonathan we know you can write we know you have ideas but can you direct me like Kenny directly talk about so I go to Warren Beatty who is a friend of mine kind of not really but sort of at the time and it’s a weren’t why you keep asking me if I can direct he goes Jonathan a monkey could direct like Mike you could try to get yourself together with the right people anybody could direct I thought well if you tell me a monkey could direct I’m curious what other people would have to say so I’ve got the camera I went home I started interviewing people and that’s how this whole thing started it really wasn’t about me making my first film it was truly about me just wanting to hear from the best in the stories in Hollywood all Hollywood and how it all came together and lo and behold that is how becoming a chronic taught me how to be a better director and in the middle of it I happen to get a bunch of producers that weren’t passionate than just wanted to produce and didn’t really care about making the story and kept the journey so that you know and I was like wait a second here I carry immensely about yeah you better believe and about the heart of it in mind you I’m a really creative marketing person because all of this so you’re an entrepreneur was to promote that’s running conceivable right I love it and so in a world with no walls and we live there today with theaters that a museum park rides which they’re great IMAX is the most amazing thing on the planet I will give it credit its are silver screen of today but if you don’t have a film playing at my neck you’ve got to figure out how to build the walls around you and so that’s what I did I took the documentary I pushed it towards the idea of of filmmaking and all the film students and then I took the arm you know when they wanted to do inconceivable they didn’t really care about the stars and I did I was like I thought per day done away because she was an Oscar winner yes I fought for and she kept paddy Chayefsky alive in so many ways that we still get to experience that incredibly Prashant writing %HESITATION who wrote that work oh yeah let your right really in and her performance was unbelievable and his performance was on believe me it was just it was a time gone by then and Nick cage came in and and another Oscar winner so I have just I wanna cut in the segment with this because this didn’t happen by accident I have Nick cage Oscar winner they done away Oscar winner Jodie foster Oscar winner and %HESITATION %HESITATION %HESITATION who’s the fourth Oscar winner and and one more I bore Oscar winning streak after three you can be proud and I was against it that I actually got to direct talked to a lot a warning weren’t done eighty one eighty is the before the house is right and good progressive to at and it by design and at the end of the day those for Oscar winners here is what becomes my pedigree yeah and I go back to George Lois who helped time he’ll figure who put him next to Ralph Lauren and enjoyed your money and I put myself next to these four Oscar winners and hopefully now the audience that we’re talking to right now is really curious about who I am what film I made but the like it you don’t like it I don’t care I care that you’re interested in what I made and then you’re going to watch the documentary and you see who I am as a person because it tells the entire story and then I get to be who I arrived at because I designed it I designed everything that I just told you where we are regrettably out of time but you’ve done something extraordinary today that you probably didn’t intend to do you thought you were going to come in and just sort of talk about what people’s personalities were like it cetera but what you’ve done is you’ve given Hollywood one a one two regular people across the country gift they would never ever be able to understand or have access to and you’ve given them that open door for the aspiring actor who was to come to town for the guy that wants to be the director get into television get into film get into radio whatever you’ve given them the basic four one one and how to do it an invaluable value right there right then and there and that is a huge thing and I want to thank you for that welcome we’ve been talking to Jonathan Baker %HESITATION he is the subject of %HESITATION becoming iconic which is a documentary available on Netflix inconceivable which is the movie upon which that is based also on Netflix release by lions gate in twenty seventeen you can see it enjoyed it gets no Jonathan much better and much deeper you’ve already gotten your durable wait kill the animals every single day or your livestock is gone in less than a month so they ate vegetables vegetables Russell’s my grandmother made it to the finish line ninety nine years old the finish line my stepfather made it to ninety six and it’s because they had grown up eating what the body really wants which is lots of green cruciferous vegetables the broccoli the stuff the fights cancer and Swedish meatballs who isn’t but did you know that Swedish meatballs did not actually originate in Sweden Swedish officials recently decided to use their national Twitter account of bass up regarding the true lineage of the tasty needs fears by revealing quote Swedish meatballs are actually based on a recipe King Charles the twelfth brought home from Turkey in the early eighteenth century and quote the BBC reports that multiple Turkish media entities have expressed glee at the quote confession and quickly added claims of other savory delights purportedly purloined by the former monarch including stuffed cabbage and coffee beans so what is instead an undeniably Swedish Swedish food staple well the official website of the nation of sweet and sad pickled herring something you can eat with great assurance of Swedish authenticity but probably not found at ikea and now for your surprise minute promise ten days at one Pennsylvania high school were surprised recently when a fellow student arrived at the formal dance score did not buy another senior class may nor even a lower classmen but by a handsome cardboard cutout of Danny DeVito yep U. P. R. reports the Carlisle high senior Alison Klaas purchased the devido double online along with a small scooter which used to transport her two dimensional date around the community center where the dance was held class estimated that the entire set up cost a mere hundred twenty dollars which probably qualifies the duty to stand in as a cheap date and one could of course argue that Danny DeVito even in cardboard form makes it more interesting escort than a lot of high school seniors well done Allison for reality check live I’m mercy Malick reality ask there’s seventy check coming what a Harris and with you is reality check live reality check live dot or you can call us anytime on social media reality check LV LV course reality check LV well we’ll talk a little bit about depression all my god that’s so depressing well yes it is but there is sort of a way through and there are some real experts who’ve been through it and I’m not talking about studied psychiatrists who have you know read some text books and talk to people we talk about people who have been in the trenches and I’ve come out especially famous people our favorite flavor I think on this I want to introduce you to Justin pack half of you already know who we as he’s a Lucas oil champion off road race car driver living with class one bi polar disorder we’re gonna figure out what class one isn’t just a second Justin here tried to kill himself but thankfully his gun didn’t go off that’s a key thing serendipity plays into a lot of this too and today he is an advocate to help others with mental illness through an approach learning to use bi polar disorder to his advantage and encouraging others as well so an excerpt from his memoir bullet proof is currently featured on the now me website and you can check out just Google Justin actually just Google Justin pack Russian we work at Justin tech depressions %HESITATION author off road you name it and there he is there he is what we call a ubiquitous or and just a pack I want to welcome you today to reality check live thank you let’s jump right into it I’m just gonna move your microphone just a little for our radio side of the world %HESITATION let’s chop wood to bipolar one disorder we’ve all heard bipolar in fact we all use it daily in conversational well he’s just bipolar but they’re just saying that because they think it’s it means something but you know what it really means yeah it’s %HESITATION made the the general conception when someone says you know he’s just being bipolar it’s and it’s based on a mood changer and he’s grumpy one days not gonna be the next class one bipolar is based on the long term effect of either manic phase or depressive phase so for me class one means that I can be in a depressive state for six months a year two years more I can be on the manic phase for the same time and to be clear when we use when we talk about a depressive phase it’s not like you’re bombed out it means you can’t get out of bed you might have to sleep two three weeks get up take away as eat some sugar you know pass out for two more weeks that’s about it and then in your manic phase you are like somebody on crystal meth except lots of crystal meth you get stuff done you see the future of all of humankind more clearly than the rest of us get on my right Ali to credit yet you can read minds yep yep and you have not a group of voices in your head you have a consortium of teams of voices in your head yeah and everything just it works in sync yeah everything just it honestly it seems like it’s perfection now how do I know this you’re wondering how would I know this well I have a dear friend who I’ve had for over twenty years who has the exact same condition and he’s now sixty three I think and you know people don’t usually make it that long so it’s kind of a cool miracle to both your here somehow he he figures it out to you probably have a lot more expertise and and it does take a lot of medical intervention %HESITATION medicines things like that to challenge the brain chemistry and narrow a chemical dysregulation all the rest of it but one of the things he gets is he likes to take off his clothes and walk around nude with a **** a turgid propose this ad is not at all conscious that maybe you know at the dinner table or somewhere that’s a bit much I think I’m right now my idea but the medic side of it is Technicolor for human beings yes so describe what you how you see the world and what you’re thinking when you’re in your manic phase manic phase for me is it’s it’s like the world the line and the creativity of for me is is amazing and the businesses work really well relationships typically struggle a little bit because I’m I’m I’m a little bit more to to handle than than most and you think we can’t keep up with you exactly that’s that’s the whole thing is is most people can’t keep up so yeah and then then there’s this thing where you have in your depression and here I’m speaking for you and I apologize for that but this is fascinating to me it really as we all have our own kinds of depression I get really friggin depressed myself and it’s all hopeless I’m not bi polar I’m just a civilian yeah but I know it is so crushing for me and so hopeless sometimes and and and this is child’s play compared to your experience bipolar depression is %HESITATION is different than than your standard depression for sure I had the best word that I’ve ever came across that actually can can convey it is the word despair and meet you get into the mode of absolute despair where nothing is rational the the mind the mind supersedes any rational thought we’re talking right now to just pack he is a well he’s a race car driver %HESITATION he is a philosopher he has written a memoir he has really the go to expert now from the civilian standpoint not from that the medical standpoint because he’s not a medical practitioner observing an object he is the object itself observing and now sharing with us the way to cope and deal with this and just unpack let’s talk for a second about what does one do if one is bi polar maybe they’ve been diagnosed as that maybe they don’t know maybe they’re just chronically hideously depressed and crushed and defeated or they are on fire for no given reason they didn’t have an extra Cup of coffee or something well the the the things that we do I mean for me like racing is my outlet and at the the biggest thing for me and the and the mental disorder is always having an outlet and the other thing is having a good tribe of people around me and that I love that they care about me that no when I’m on one side or the other and so here you are let’s talk about also the appetites the you get when you’re in your manic phase other than driving K. what appetites might those be IP %HESITATION I do like to shop I love shoes I’m not gonna lie I %HESITATION I do like to spend money and the in the past I have fought opiate addictions my final to those things right now I need you know I think I’ve kind of got most everything under control and the racing is still still my drug it’s and it’s still the thing that keeps me you know here and then and I have my children you know my family my kids my grand babies at the end of the day I mean that’s ultimately why I still breathe everyday yeah it’s very important to %HESITATION be tethered to other humans because one of the effects of bipolar disorder or any depression is isolation therapy yes that’s what I need I’m so lonely that I need to be alone that’s the cure for loneliness more aloneness but it makes sense logically doesn’t kill logically which is your logic at the time yes yes solitude is a is an interesting thing because in the in the solitude moment when you’re when you’re by yourself you don’t have the outside chaos and the you become accustomed to that and you feel better with not having the outside chaos and a lot of times it’s just it’s just not the best way to do things we’re talking right now to Justin pack he’s a Lucas oil champion off road off road race car driver say that ten times quickly and he’s living with class one bi polar disorder he did try to kill himself which is not unusual this is like a shocking statement for somebody with class one bipolar most people don’t actually survive it past fifty or fifty five or something like that again yeah I think I think the actual status is is is fifty to fifty two is about the age yeah so you’re doing good and what are you doing that other people like what’s the the treatment your memoir obvious you flush it out make it public that helps in a way as some people say you know we’re sick as our secrets yes you know yet from the is doing what I’m doing is and as I’m standing up and having the voice yeah it said it for me to have the opportunity to talk about it and to be able to relate to the people around me that is almost the cure all you know I am but I’m lucky to be associated with an army with bipolar magazine with them but with different groups that the really help the people that they need the help they need the support and it’s just I’m very fortunate to be in the position that I am and now me as the national association of for mental illness yes and so we can just go out and find out in in your featured in there and bipolar magazine and others things yes and a lot of people would probably not as as we wrap up this segment of probably not be running toward public exposure with something that maybe they think they ought to be ashamed of yes except it empowers you it frees you of it doesn’t it yeah absolutely I mean I did I literally le lived for thirty five years of my life has changed and there was a couple years ago well it’s probably been four years ago I get tired of hiding yeah and so now it’s you know I’m I want the voice I want everybody to know my secret I’m okay with it and you can like me or not like me I really don’t care we like you I like myself to death how do we folly of this social media just unpack forty nine website just impact dot com and %HESITATION yeah you know email led to any of those type of things I answer I’m I I really do enjoy listening to other stories listening to you know the struggles that people are going through and and be able to give feedback well I’m gonna send my depressed friend to you because he’s a you might have heard of him too so you guys all have a couple of Jakks about %HESITATION some of the %HESITATION Mister toad’s wild ride so you’ve both been on her favorite to share those here on the air but we can all probably guess at this point yes thank you so much for coming up thank you for being transparent thank you for helping others whom you’ll never meet yes they will silently note there is hope an answer and they will now know where to go to now meet Justin picked dot com and check things out Harris with you this is reality check live we’ve been talking to just pack Lucas oil champion off road race car driver living with class one bi polar disorder if you want to learn more about it if you’re just dealing with this there is a way out and transformation myself and I’ve already lost seven upwards see it for yourself a ten day miracle dot com ten day miracle dot com ten day miracle dot com or text the word transformation two five eighteen fifty green five eighteen fifty green text transformation to five eighteen fifty green or go to attend a miracle dot com we’re back and sure we reality check Harrison here with you the clear front here with big picture Robby sitting next to me and we have a big new governor whoever that’s going to end up running up to the state of California California the seventh or eighth largest economy in of earth fell by the way fifth it’s down to five yes or up to five so for the fifth largest bigger than the GDP of many countries new governor it’s basically like the ruler of a whole nation we have Gavin Newsom we have on Tony of the array goes to the former mayor of Los Angeles Gavin Newsom for those of you who don’t live here %HESITATION get via Rigo so was the former mayor of LA Gavin Newsom of San Francisco we’ve got a lot of people John Chang vying for this but something has happened because Gavin Newsom was very famous with the gay population given San Francisco he was the first to say you get married here before it was legal I’ll even form the wedding ceremony sanctuary cities for immigrants he was one of the first and yet there’s a little consternation going on with his gay base apparently yeah so I was surprised I mean not that not to suggest that LGBT voters are single issue voters they are however well we do take other things into consideration but that’s just if we were just to think about who has been from the top story of all the candidates sort of the most iconic with L. G. B. T. rights it’s clearly Gavin Newsom right although former mayor of LA and San you’ve ever go saw is extremely LGBT friendly rose what a hell of a summer party yes I we’ve both been into his %HESITATION the you know the mayor’s mansion for private parties the garden party used to have and will always interesting was yesterday in my feed I came across iconic Cleve Jones as Facebook feed and I was surprised to see that he didn’t necessarily endorse Gavin Newsom and neither did a lot of other people have made comments so let’s just save for people in in Miami Cleve Jones who is that Cleve Jones is is a major you know one of the sort of the biggest LGBT activists of our generation %HESITATION he %HESITATION he was right there with Harvey milk and he conceived the aids quilt %HESITATION you know he is he’s a very well respected on you know iconic activists so it’s really sort of important as to whom he endorses a so that was kind of interesting and John Chung who I actually met about a couple of months ago %HESITATION was currently our treasurer California state treasurer was getting a lot of endorsements %HESITATION from you know a lot of LGBT folks %HESITATION so it was a really kind of an eye opening as to see that Gavin Newsom wasn’t necessarily the top contender he came to the LGBT vote for California governor I wonder if John who is a single payer candidate a real progressive like a serious real progressive I wonder if the L. G. B. T. world is starting to move more progressive rather than just you know Democratic Party well John is a progressive in you know a lot socially progressive is is that you know I went to an event he gave a really quite speech and he seemed conservative fiscally conservative and and that you know conservatives in general in in certain ways you know all three candidates are definitely very viable and %HESITATION you know crates of politicians and public servants so it’s gonna be interesting to see who will win I mean I know who probably well mind you know after the two twenty sixteen elections I I I try not to predict anything anymore we’re gonna ask Vic to speculate on why Cleve Jones who was instrumental in founding father a template many ways of the L. G. B. T. world the modern one that we know about wouldn’t be endorsing the guy who really has been you know as mayor of San Francisco did change the shape and flavor and set the tone for how L. G. B. T. things work this is of course reality check live reality check life dot org you get a podcast of this in any of the broadcast anytime were also carried on a variety of different streamers you can find them on our homepage you can also follow us on social media apps reality check LV LV standing for life and Vic why do you suppose what’s your prognostication while deep in that war I have no idea so for those of you who are not sort of familiar with Gavin Newsom and what he did was he was van the mayor of San Francisco and he decided to sort of do go rogue and start marrying same gender couples yeah in San Francisco and which ignited this whole movement and and you know eventually it it afforded us marriage equality so he’s definitely an icon in his own right yes why Cleve Jones is not necessarily endorsing him at this point I have no idea I have not asked him I would love to know maybe I should you know but you know I’m sure he has his reasons are or maybe I’m missing something but I thought it was interesting the reason this is very important is the same reason Chicago mayor Daley the second one that is %HESITATION was able to remain mayor for many decades because he he addressed the gay community directly known to vote democratic and it really worked in a huge city like Chicago and Gavin Newsom has held that same kind of level of power and yet it seems to be shifting thank you back for this and we’ll get an update %HESITATION at another time on this and where it looks like absolutely %HESITATION and I appreciate it where can we follow you back so queer frontier with Vic is obviously the the you know the segment that we’re doing but you can also go to the blunt post de blanc poster art com %HESITATION and also you can follow me on Twitter at Vic drop me or at the blank post awesome thank you so much the same as the queer frontier with Vic Paris with you reality check live reality check live dot org Hey everybody do you need a website do you need a dot com dot a worker at dot anything do you need a domain name do you have a website that needs a little refreshing to help your sales ability maybe you need a website you can get the whole spectrum not just dot coms we’d get a special email address with your own professional email address based on your domain get it at a discount get it through us reality check plus dot com reality check plus dot com for all of your internet needs com
